What the **** is "Dream Theater"?
Dream Theater are an awesome band. Thier music falls under the category of Progressive Metal.
Progressive = A different approach to genre which trys to innovate and incorporate elements from other genres and music theory. Often characterized by complex compositional structures and longer songs.
Metal = thick, heavy, guitar-and-drums-centered sound, characterised by the use of highly-amplified distortion.
I can't imagine what they sound like by a ****ing description, where are da mp3s?
Dream Theater have changed their sound a lot in their 20 years. Some of their newer stuff is easier to get into than the older. Some of the highlights of their stuff:
Pull me Under
As I Am
Some of my favourites:
Scenes From a Memory - The whole album: You can't appreciate the beauty of this album by listening to just one track, the entire album tells a story about a murder and it does it in a magnificent way.
In the name of God: A song about how religion has caused violence, very powerful.
A change of Seasons: A 23 minute long song which has some great instrumental work, can be divided into segments to represent each season and it really does it well.
Ytse Jam and Stream of Conciousness: Two of Dream Theater's best instrumental work. It really shows you how talented the band is.
Octavarium - The whole album: Another complex album I love, it is probably the deepest album I've listened to too. The analysis of this album is amazing and it makes listening to the album much better http://dt.spatang.com/octavarium.php
Wow this **** is great, anything similar?
Liquid Tension Experiment, Symphony X, Porcupine Tree, Queensryche, Pain of Salvation, Opeth, Ayreon.
All of them are awesome.
**** you PopeOfDope, what kind of **** is this? Are you ****ing deaf?
GTFO out my thread :)
So what do you guys think of them? Type Dream Theater into Youtube and you will find loads of live stuff, not so many proper music videos though since not many progressive artists produce music videos.
