Middle of the earth

The earth couldn't where would all of the lava come from?
Anyway my theory is that since gravity pushes down you would be crushed

except that 'down' would be nowhere in the middle of the earth. down is DEFINED by gravity.

you'd be crushed by the pressure, not the gravity.

here's a point to ponder.

The effect Earth's gravity has on you is related to two things:
1. The mass of the Earth (relatively fixed)
2. Your distance from the mass (changing).

On the surface of the Earth, all of the Earth's mass is 'below' you, on one end of you. On the other end is relatively little gravitational pull - hence why you stay firmly rooted on the ground.

As you get closer to the center of the earth, not only is there less mass 'below' you than before, but there's now mass 'above' you, pulling in the opposite direction.

So when you hit the center, the effect of gravity is the average of all the effects of gravity caused by all the particles of the earth, pulling in all different directions. In a perfectly uniform sphere it's zero. In the Earth, it's not, but it's close enough that you certainly wouldn't feel it.

So no, you wouldn't be totally weightless, but you might as well be.

if you dug a whole though the center of the eath, it would cave in on the whole before anyone could go down it, what whould need to happen is to dig on your way down then you would need to swim through the lava and then dig again though the solid rock core. Now if you could you would be crushed not weightless

What would happen if we were able to dig to the core of the earth (just imagine if we had heat suits that protected us from the lava ok ) Would gravity make us stay in the same place forever?

Here's an analogy. You know how black holes have huge masses but zero volume. This is because the gravitational force is so large that the atoms themselves are not able to withstand the force.
Now if you go to the earths center you would basically be like an atom in a black hole.

I am just going to anwer this simply:

IF you could get to the center of the Earth without being killed by pressure, lava, etc., you would simply experience zero gravity. Since the mass of the Earth is radiating outward from a central point, all gravity would be focused at the center. Since gravity is just a downward acceleration, if you had equal gravity from all sides, it would cancel out.

You would not get stuck permanently, but you would need a lot of power to reach the surface.

Pressure is not gravity. Pressure is pressure.

There is no way you would experience zero gravity because you are between two things pulling toward one another.

They're pulling toward you, not toward one another. If you're at the center, there is no pull between you and the earth, because there's no distance from the center of mass. You would experience no gravity yourself... but be crushed from the pressure caused by the weight of the mass of the earth around you.

Your knowledge of physics is very basic. I am sorry to say that you are wrong... hmm.. i just thought of something. theoritically of course as all this is, if we where able to build a tube to stick through the earth, tht was able to withstand the weight of the entire earth (and heat etc.) would this be a way around all this "what about this" excuses? then u could jump in the tube and not hav to worry about immense pressure and stuff. then u could slide to a halt at the center of the earth!

The only way you would experience zero gravity is if you weren't pulled down by gravity toward the center. Since gravity on the earth accelerates an object at 32 ft/s per second as soon as you reach the center you would start decellerating in the opposite direction.

the tube woudn't help technically your still at the center you would need something that is capable of, for lack of better words, repel gravity and pressure also gravity is pulling into the center so you would still experience gravity at the center it's not like their is a barrier which once passed well instantly mean zero-gravity and if there is a barrier it is most likly as small as a few atoms and no way a human could fit in also from the sounds of it you guys are basing that as you fall that mass is pulling you back up, no it's called center of gravity for a reason also there is no way you would pass the center and then go back and forth until you slow down to a stop no you would get sucked right into the center and stay it's to strong to avoid but with enough power may be able to escape from same as a black hole just because light can't escapes it doesn't mean there isn't something that can't escape it we only know the tip of what this universe is
