Pig fat and Glycerin

I was wondering if someone could tell me whether or not the glycerin ingredient used in some foods is made from pig fat or some other fat like plants or other animals. Also How is it possible to know whether or not a company uses pig fat in their foods without calling the company?

Glycerin is glycerin regardless of where it came from.

With a chemical as basic as this I see no reason why it should matter where it comes from.
It can come from so many sources and the end product is always the same so why does it matter if it came from the pig if it has no connection with a pig at all?
Given well extracted glycerin there would be no way to tell where it came from so does it actually matter what the chemical was extracted from?

Structurally, they are identical. Given that it's purified, what makes one glycerin different from another?

Hey everyone, Yeah sorry I was away from computer so couldn't follow up! Yeah I am Muslim myself and that is one of the reasons I ask but that is one of the problems? How do we know if it is purely cleaned, I know that it is the same compound study Bio and all but still how do we know that it is clean form all pig material?

I mean look at it this way, we are talking about the same people here who put carcinogenic products into our foods and then say its all good, it won't cause cancer. On the opposite, most cancers are caused by people not exercising enough and eating these carcinogenic foods! Oh and if you don't believe me go to the front page of the science blog here at QJ, and click on the via link and read that article!

See actually I am trying to understand something about these processed chemicals such as glycerin. As PopeOfDope was kind enough to show us, both glycerin from plants and animals has the same structure. Personally if it has the same structure Islam has nothing against it. Such as the chemical glycerin in its pure form, what Islam forbids me to eat is pig and drink wine or alcoholic beverages! But I am scared that some of these companies don't clean out the glycerin properly which could mean they mix in pig products! At that point I believe we would need to call the company itself!

Now I do not know what the Jewish community believes about pig and its cleanliness, or about where you got this idea. But firstly I'll tell you this, the reason Muslims don't eat or are not allowed to eat pig has nothing to do with its hygiene, rather it is the fact that God is testing us by asking us not to eat a certain animal he created. Which is why you also don't see Muslims torturing the pig or killing them off like a genocide, because we respect all animals that come from God, only for this one its a special case where god told us don't eat it.

Now in Islam there is always a reason for anything that we Muslims are ordered or asked to do. For this reason it has to do with the pigs hygiene. I mean these animals roll around in the mud, they eat food that resembles mud and sometimes may be made of it because pigs will eat anything. Also science has shown that the pig is not one of the most healthy animals to be eating and for many reasons. For this reason I believe we Muslims were told not to eat the pigs so that we stay healthy.
In Islam our main purpose is to remain pure, clean, and so that when we present ourselves to God again, we not only account for our sins but we account for the vessel we used in this world.

Yes He did, but then we must also look at it this way. Didn't God also create the mind with which humans think? Sometimes are minds can think good, beautiful things, yet sometimes they can think of death, killing, adultery, etc. So even if it was created by God it can be something else. Or what I mean to say, just because God created it, doesn't mean we can use it in certain ways. So in this case Muslims are not allowed to eat pig or drink wine.
