Scientists clone frozen mice, thinking of cloning mammoths
Scientists in Japan took out some mice that have been frozen for 16 years or so (don't ask me why they put them in the freezer for that long) and successfully made clones from their DNA.
This is a landmark in cloning because it's proven that cells can be used for cloning even after being frozen. It wasn't said how long the shelf life was though (points if you know the shelf life for frozen mice - just don't tell me how you know?). Freezing tends to degrade cells after a time, so cloning may not work in all cases.
Scientists are now looking at mammoths as their new guinea pig for cloning, since many of them were found trapped in ice. Now if you can find the squirrel from Ice Age, they can probably clone him as well. Just prepare an acorn.
Theoretically, we can have some of our cells frozen before we die, and have future scientist guys clone them. Freaky, but possible. One cloning expert even said that they may even bring back Red Sox hitter Ted Williams, whose body was cryogenically frozen.
Now imagine what would happen if they put the cloned mammoths in the same room as the cloned mice. Hehehehe
