Well if your talking about how far humans can go into space I would say as far as Mars (within 50 or more years), on the other hand if you were talking about man made things like Voyager 1 and 2 they whent a long way out there and there still progressing into the the solar system (heres a link to the voyager incase your wondering about how many miles they have whent check it out here http://voyager.jpl.nasa.gov/mission/...orts/index.htm). One day in the very distant future we will probly go as far or much further then Voyagers are going... :icon_bigg

I think I read somewhere that voyager 1 and 2 are now out of our solar system. They broke some barrier (termination shock or something) where they are facing space winds that travel at something like 17 km a second. Then after that there's pretty much nothing for hundreds of thousands of kilometers.

Theoreticaly you can send something to the edge of the universe and possibly beyond, it will just take a long time.

Click Here for the AnimationThe universe is mostly empty space. Even in a "crowded" region like our solar system, the distances between planets are so vast that they are difficult to imagine. This animation simulates a voyage from the sun past all nine planets. For convenience, the planets are lined up in the same direction. The animation shows each planet's average distance from the sun.
At the speed of today's fastest spacecraft (~20 km/second), it would take almost ten years to travel this distance. Even at the speed of light, the trip would last 5 1/2 hours. In this animation, the apparent speed of the viewer is over 300 times the speed of light.
We won't be getting very far any time soon, if ever.

Well if we find ways to propel forms of matter throughout space at light speed or close to it *cough* *h-bomb* *cough* and keeping it's form, then we can reach those planets such as mercury in a matter of minutes, unforturnanatly if we wizz by a planet it's gravetational pull won't be anything close to being able to pull the object twords it therefore it will be going through space for a very, very long time.

Nice animation! Yeah, I don't know if we're even gonna get past our solar system soon because that was at over 300 times the speed of light!

I think as long as we are having new technologies, we will stay advancing till endless parts of the universe. But it needs time of course.
