I wonder how long a president would last who just did what needed to be done all the time and didnt give a damn what everyone thought? Sure, everyone would get pissed off, but we might get some good done before he got kicked out.

You think we're safe? Think it's a 'remote' possibility like the media says? Haha. No. Infact, we've only got about 1% of the asteroids out there catalogued. That means there are about 90 billion more that could be shooting towards us right now. There are so many of these things, one could hit tomorrow because we're looking in the wrong places. Infact, the chance of us getting hit by an asteroid tomorrow are about 1 in 5000.

I have a friend who doesn't believe in Africa. Personally, I'd like everything bad there to stop, but I wouldn't want my country to have to break the rules of the UN thing to make it stop. Either the UN changes, or we don't do anything. If the UN does change though, that will lead to problems elsewhere.

Anyhoo, I'm a consumerist, not an activist, so I actually don't care about whether those people live or die as long as the price of pizza stays the same.

The moon is about 3500 miles in diameter, in comparison the one that killed the dinos was as small as 2-3 miles in diameter. Infact, anything over the size of around 1/4 mile would easily wipe out 80% of all life on earth.. If something the size of the moon hit.. There's just no more earth.

Although the atmospheric composition has changed since those periods so that could explain the lesser occurances of those impacts now. Also the impact that supposedly killed the dinosaurs was probably multiple impacts occuring at the same time causing massive climate change. Dinosaurs might not be able to cope with those changes but humans might be able to.

Multi impact was only a theory -- and the atmospheric conditions don't effect asteroids all that much. Infact, the atmosphere has changed very little. There is no 'probably' about it, the multi impact wasn't very likely. The Wikipedia article makes it seem like it's already proven...

By the way, we can't cope with climate change as well as the dinos. Since technically the atmosphere would be singed and there would probably be a near instant tempature drop of as much as 50 degrees (instant meaning 10-50 years) all over earth. It's run away global warming, and cooling.

Stephen Hawking isn't actually as igood a physicist as people portray. Sure, he's got a higher IQ than most, but the main reason for him being famous is his disability.
