What lays beyond the edge of the universe?

I've always wondered stuff like this. What would happen is anything went past it? What colour is the part just out of the universe? How far does the outside of the universe go?

I was listening to a talk almost identical to this at the NASA Goddard Space/Flight Center in MD.
One of the guest-lecturing scientists said that 'beyond the universe' (which means after X light years travelling > than the speed of light), matter is so condensed it is unimaginable how compact it is; so tightly compressed that black holes are not comparable. He also said that it is the relative universal expansion (coefficient of G in physics) which 'uncompresses' such condensed matters to what we know of as stars, galaxies etc etc.

It was an amazing talk; makes you think and appreciate life I guess.

Believe it or not you can never get to the edge of the universe... If you do have a ship fast enough to reach where the universe is being created you can never go through it because at that point the light bends. it would be like walking into a mirror, our brain is not wired to accept that the universe has no end. it would be like a person who lived on a flat planet all his life moving to earth... if he kept walking he would eventually end up in the place he started and he wouldnt understand it... (originally read in The Short History of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson) I highly recommend it to anyone interested in any science at all...

How could there be nothing if there is no space to put nothing in it....
To make it shorter, space is nothing.

If you look at one room that's empty and another that is full of furniture, if there isn't stuff to compare the empty room to, you can't define anything as being empty.
