A short Trip Into Dimensions....
Understanding of dimensions is not a difficult thing to achieve..
Therefore realising of dimensions is kind of "difficult"..
As many calculated the dimensions are not only 3. Our world though is 3D.
There is an easy way to understand the dimensions.
Take a piece of paper and draw 2 simple characters.
Lets call character 1 PSP and character 2 DS. Then in the middle draw a square box.
PSP can see DS and DS can see PSP. You on the other hand can see them both without them knowing since their world is based on 2 dimensions.
If you put your hand over PSP and DS you will create shade over the 2 dimensional creatures. They will see the shade but they wont be able to see you.
Now lets consider the square box as a safebox or a bank of DS games. DS made it to keep them safe from PSP, actually he built it in a way that the games cant come out or someone go in, in any other way except than demolishing the building.
You on the other hand again can see what is in there and very easily just pick up the games without the need of demolishing anything since you are a 3 dimensional creature.
In the same way we cannot realise how could a 4th dimension be (I am not considering time as the fourth dimension here).
We could affect PSP and DS without them knowing and never actually realise, they would finish the case with the missing games as a mystery or unsolved. In the same way 4 dimensional creatures could affect us and there is no way of us realising or even imagining how.
Some pople claim that hallucinogenic substances like LSD is a way of getting closer to realise more dimensions and some others claim that deep meditation can help in feeling and coming closer to realising. Those cases of course are not proven and still remain in a speculative form.
Discuss..

Erm...
Zitat von MjW
Anyway, what you've said makes sense. But if we're in the third dimension, and there is a fourth one, there could be people constantly watching us and we wouldn't be able to see them. How's that for paranoia?-=Images are for Premium members only=-

Thats correct Siouxsie!
I don't really see a big difference between paranoia and advanced science though!

Hehe. It's a shame there's no life forms in the second dimension. They'd be extremely entertaining.

Hehe true.. But "theoritically" there are.
Imagine an acrobat walking on a rope. The rope for the acrobat is a 2 dimensional surface. But "in" the rope there are micro-organisms and the rope for them has 3 dimensions.
Damn Einstein for his Relativity Theory

That has me confuddled :-\
You're saying that what is 2D to us would be 3D to what's inside the 2D?-=Images are for Premium members only=-

Yes.:) I know its confusing.:Argh:
Thats why i never bothered in buying books like "The Universe in a Nutshell" by Stephen William Hawking
My brain doesn't go that far

FYI there are 4 dimensions, The 3 spaces one and time.
It;s all relitive though so what's time to you can be space for another object.

Yes, and i fully agree with you.
If you read carefully you'll see that i stated "I am not considering time as the fourth dimension here" to avoid misunderstandings in the example;)Edison Carter Rulez!

For higher theoretical physics, string theories, and possible unification theories, there need to be more than the four dimensions. I've read about possible ten dimension theories and some theories relying on up to 32 dimensions.

Yup, they are too small to have any effect on our expieriences.
Zitat von Abe_Froeman
There are 4 dimensions.
Zitat von MjW
The object's point of reference dictates what they do.
For us that's 3 space dimensions and 1 time.
To another object there could be 3 time dimensions and 1 space.
So you can't just say don't include time because then you would have to disclude them all.

Zitat von Abe_Froeman
This is actually very true.
Hawking talked about 11 dimensions.
Superstring and M-theories are based on 11 dimensions as well sometimes maybe 10.
And finally the Bosonic string theory is based on 26 dimensions.
Which theory is relying on 32 really?
Come on man relax, i was trying to make it as simple as possible for everybody to understand..

You know, I hate people like you. You are using smilies, which makes you an idiot. And also, it's supposed to be a capital N there, thank you.
