Now that is what I agree with. The universe will grow then when it can no more it will collapse in on its self. But that makes me think... How many times has this happened and were did that energy come from? Has it always been this way and always will?

    I've thought about that...

It's one of 2 answers. Either that moment when everything in that mass comes to a complete stop because it can neither furhter compress nor move in any direction is simultaneously the end ~AND~ beginning of time itself.

    ~or~

It happens over and over, and there would be no way of telling whether it happens once, twice, a billion, or however many times. Maybe it happens so many times that every possible scenario of events are played out in ALL possible variations. the different multi-verses existing in both a linear and layered fashion simultaneously.

as far as the other question. We know by the laws of thermodynamics that energy can neither be created nor destroyed. That being the case one could assume that ALL the energy in the universe would equal 1 unit, which neither grows nor diminishes in quantity over time, but takes on and transforms into various forms. that being said it could also me concluded that the term "always has and always will" is an oxy-moron, inthat the ONE unifying truth of the universe is that nothing is permanent, and that ALL things are subject to change.

I would say that there wasn't time before the universe, seeing as it is a creation of humans, and therefore nothing was there for no time before the universe, lol.

Time is part of the Space-Time continuum (aka the universe), therefore there is no Time "before" the universe, and therefore there is no "before" the universe, since "before" is a function of time. The question is the equivelant to saying whats the memory address of the notepad sitting next to your psp.

I was at a Barnes&noble the other day and I found a book called "Universe" and it talked about 3 ways the universe could end.
    They are:
    Big crunch
    Big Freeze
    Big Rip

The big crunch is the one where the universe collapses
The big freeze is where the universe will continue expanding and everything not held together by gravity will come apart.
The big rip is where the universe continues to expand at an increasing velocity to where every thing will be torn apart, even atoms.

No, switching to SATA would be. Who knows what kind of connections they used back then. The time to upgrade draws near.

    Before the universe? A biverse.
The prefix bi- means 2, while the prefix uni- means 1 or single. So how would a 2-verse come before a 1-verse.
And for the prefix to have a meaning the word is comes before needs to mean something and I don't know of verse being a word that qualifys.(like a line of poetry doesn't fix)

this is true, But you're forgetting that time is a function of acceleration. or motion in general, a non moving object would in my reckoning "not" age in the sense that we percieve it

True also, but 'Before' is mainly an object of time, not a motion. It can not be used as 'Motion in general' or to do with age, since time didn't exist before the space-time continuim.

    sorry for spelling errors!

Yes it can, I just don't think you'd understand the explaination.
    This is hard to explain.
When you move toward something you aren't moving toward it your time is just bending toward the objects time...
I dunno how to explain it better, someone else probably can.

Get your dumb **** out of this thread.

Here is some more knowledge for some of you about time and motion(well I am pretty sure this is all correct[hope you like my story anyhow])...
Say there is a guy named Bob. He is a happy 54 year old with a 2 year old grandson and will turn 55 the next day. Him being smart he developed a spaceship capable of going the speed of light with the help of his psychic powers. He goes and plans a trip that will take 100 years to travel at the speed of light and that will leave him back where he started. The next day he kisses his grandson good-bye and goes in the ship and flies off, to the spectators it looks like he disappeared though. They stay on earth and wait.... and wait..... and wait..... for 100 years. On the 100th anniversary of Bob’s departure the ship just seems to appear as it stops from its journey. Bob pulls him self out of the ship and looks around. The crowd around him had seemed to have changed in an instant for him. From the crowd a 102 year old man slowly walks up and tells Bob, "Happy 55 birthday grandpa".

It could also be the other way around, after all it is the twin paradox.
Any who I will go and by me a book on the theories of time and space later on.

    The only things wrong are:
"Psychic powers" (if real, which I doubt) could not help you achieve anything speed near the speed of light.
Nothing except light can reach the speed of light.

False, acceleration is a function of time.

Space-time is 4 dimensional, the 3 dimensions of space as we know it, and time, at least according to Einstein.

It's such a pity that it's the best section and yet it is so ignored.

    Thumbs up

    Zitat Zitat von nar
    There was no "before".

....There HAS to have been something that caused the big bang. There has NEVER - and I repeat, NEVER - have been completely nothing in this infinite void.

Think about it for a sec....anything that happens needs a 'cause', in order for it to occur. Now..people who believe in God, and implying that 'He' is the one that constructed the Universe...well, 'God' has to either exist in order to create or influence..so, 'He' was energy (a spirit per se) and nothing was part of 'Him' or beyond 'Him'...

Now, back on topic, how could of the 'big bang' erupted, over nothing? Matter wasn't inside this infinite void. But energy has been...ALWAYS!, matter and energy is interchangeable. And THAT MY FRIEND is the cause of everything. Call it whatever you want:"God" or whatever;doesn't make a difference.

Bottom-line:If there have been completly nothing then the Universe is an impossibilty.

Good job completely disregarding spelling, grammar, and logic.

i second that... this is my first time lookin at the sience section... and i'm really enjoyin it!!!

this thread has kind of drifted off in a few directions so i'll add to that mess!

when i was researching this a while ago i read (doin it in physics now in school) that things on a sub atomic level can and do just appear and disappear , randomly and with absolutely no warning.

Universe was made in the same way but obviously on a much larger scale. just from nothing. and so there's no reason why some need a "god" or miracle etc like Muslims , Christianity, spongebob squarepants. .. it just happened, just like those sub atomic particles.

OR so i read... i am uncertain (obviously) but certainly don't believe in any god.

and yes i know this is an old(ish) thread

wait, so if the universe is constantly expanding does that mean that(in theory) we could reach the end of the universe?

    Forgot the expanding ><

but if its constantly accelarating like some scientists say, wouldnt that mean it has a limit because most of these scientists also agree thiers nothing faster than speed of light, so how could it be constantly accelarating, and how could it have not gained at least upto this speed if it was here for so long. Thus questioning the accelaration of the universes expansion theory

The Universe always existed, all we could know it could be 9,999,999,999,999,999,999 ,999,999,999,999 Katrillion years old.

There was never NOT a universe.
