ok....explain to me how there is a infinate ammount of stars...and yet we can only see a certain ammount of them....theres nothing in the way....just vacume???
Are you serious? There are planets, other stars, meteors, asteroids, moons, and so on in the way. There's PLENTY of stuff to block the light. Also, at such long distances, you have to figure in the light we lost because it's bent towards massive objects.

You think you had it bad from me? Hahaha.

It helps a lot to think before you post, in time, if you ever come back and read this thread you will cringe when reading your posts.

And I'm not a moderator in this section as Ciaran500 said, now granted I should still be nice and whatnot, but to be honest, after reading this I had just about lost the will to live.

I mean, someone else said it was "Interesting" how so? Chathurga must of posted at least four times explaining the same thing and you kept on asking him to re-explain, and to be honest, if you're "never posting here again" I say good riddance, it saves these abomination of threads from appearing.

Serideth, I have to say I agree, and Chathurga, most of the world doses not have an open mind to except possibility's and ultimately reality.
As, Carl Sagan said, "For me, it is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring. "

And for you tards, a simple explanation.
In the universe there is a uncomprehendable amount of stars (7×10^22), worlds, and space. You don't see stars floating out in the vastness of space as they are clustered together in galaxies. In the galaxies the starts are often clustered together as well in what are known as star clusters. That means when you look at the night sky not every thing you see are stars. They are galaxies, star clusters, and maybe a black hole sucking in a star. With all the space, and its vastness, there is know way for us to be surrounded by enough stars to light our sky's.[The closest star to us is Proxima Centauri, which is 4.2 light years away, 39.9 trillion kilometres]
And for another bit of information. Light is affected by gravity as well. Light can be pulled, and manipulated.
Tomorrow, if I remember, I will draw diagrams explaining in detail, why, and how.
(I have physics and APUSH final to study for)

I saw dark matter in the thread title and instantly thought it was a final fantasy vii thread.
    I am such a nerd.

Anywho I read through this thread and decided to google up some stuff.
    I found this rather interesting:

Zitat Zitat von some dude from some webpage
Edward Harrison, an astronomer at the University of Amherst in Massachusetts has recently written a book called Darkness at Night: A Riddle of the Universe. In it he states that the night sky isn’t blindingly bright because the stars and the universe don’t actually go on forever. Light can take millions of years to reach us from the stars that emitted it. Therefore, when we look out into space we are actually looking back in time. Powerful telescopes now allow astronomers to see light that was emitted by stars approximately 10 billion years ago. As telescopes become more sensitive, scientists are able to look further back into time. Many scientists believe that the universe is only about 15 billion years old.

Nibblers waste in Futurama is called dark matter, but it isn't dark matter. What it actually is, is highly compressed matter. For instances, a teaspoon of a black hole would way some tons(at least). And with all that mass is how a black hole has such a high gravitational field.

I think I shot myself in the foot while reading you stupid and uneducated post.

Do you even know why the sky is black(well, dark blue) at night? There is not enough light to stimulate the cones in our eyes which lowers the brightness of the sky greatly. During the day our atmosphere filters out some of the light which is why the sky is not white, the atmosphere does the same at night which could be blocking the massive amounts of starlight at night. This is just a theory, we are not exactly sure why it is black, but this is a very very distinct and realistic possibility.

actually light from the sun is split at the atmosphere, the shorter wavelength light (blue) is absorbed and radiated acorss the sky, which is why the sky on the horizon isn't as blue as the sky right above you.
Its dark/black at night because light from the stars isn't as strong as it is from the sun, thus even if short wavelength light is dispersed in the atmosphere it doesn't make much difference.

Dark Matter is simply, dark matter that is non-luminous (makes up 90% of our universe's mass). We do not know what it is, could be black dwarfs, white dwarfs (under certain circumstances), black holes, neutron stars, etc. This lies under the current category of MACHOs (Massive Compact Halo Objects). There is also the belief of WIMPS (Weakly interacting massive particles) which are eotic subatomic particles, however none of these particles have ever been observed in the universe. Hydrogen Gas is another possible "candidate" for Dark Matter as it is very abundant in our universe, but would have to reach very cold temperatures and not enough of it has been detected to support the theory.

That's dark matter in a nutshell
Do you know who I am?
