Dark matter
For a long time iv wondered why space was black...i just couldn’t think why...then after watching a TV program (thanks horizon) i came up with the answer!...ever heard of dark matter...a substance so small it can pass through atoms, it cannot be seen (it is (supposedly) the reason galaxies furthest stars rotate at the same speed as the ones in the middle) and has never, ever been detected...now, my theory...is that that blackness is dark matter!, it makes sence!!...think about mist... you cant see a single droplet of mist...or mist in your direct vicinity, but far away it seems abundant...its the same principal with us seeing dark matter...its just soooooo small it needs to be allot further away.
and that is why the sky is black (and how we actually can see dark matter)
please excuse the bad wording (im dyslexic)
i will be happy to respond to any questions :)
what do you think??

The blackness of space has nothing to do with dark matter.
Space is black because there are no objects for light to bounce off and into your eye. (Well not enough objects.)

that makes no sense...because in theory the infinite amount of stars should fill all the gaps and cause a space to be a different colour (excuse the bad wording) and there are an infinite amount of stars all providing a light source...so again it dosent explain it

For a star to be at every point in the sky one of the following would have to be true:
The Universe is infinitely old.
The Universe isn't expanding.
Neither are true, there is not a star at every point in the sky. Therefore the sky should not be bright.

There isn't an infinite number of stars.
Look, you don't have the answer. I'm sorry but do you really think you found the answer after watching a show and researchers haven't?

If space was white, that would imply that the light from every star in existence would be visible regardless of distance or whatever ether might be in the way, meaning there would be no night. A blinding white sky would be visible at all times.
I think I'll keep my black space, if you dont mind.

Exactly!...according to my theory...the reason that doesnt happen..is due to dark matter's mist like effect :)

No, you are wrong.
You obviously don't understand why, so just know that you are.

Well I explain why you were wrong and you still don't get it.
Space is not infinite.
There is not a star at every point in the sky.
Dark matter has nothing to do with the blackness of space.

How do you know that dark matter creates a mist like effect?
Evidence please.

thank you :)

yes and if you read it! you will reilise it is a theory!
Zitat von Chathurga

If it was infinite the universe couldn't exist!
You are basing this "theory" off no fact, at all.
I could just as logically suggest that elephants cause this so called mist like effect which make the sky black at night.
-
12-10-2006, 01:26 PM #19
but space being infinate or not being infinate is ur opinion!...not fact!

A lot of people view space as infinite because theres too much space out there to comprehend, so its easier to view space as incomprehendable, or infinite. However, saying space is finite makes me think that theres just a big wall out there... and I'm not comfortable with that, lol.

There is hard evidence!
The universe has a shape, no infinite object can have a shape.
-
12-10-2006, 01:44 PM #25
lmao...your telling me the exact shape of the universe is known! thats stupid! that means for definate god exsists!

That means god exists....?
How?
Let me ask, how much science have you done in school?
-

Play nice guys.. Everyone's welcome to their opinion.
Imo, scientific facts are often only fact until proven inaccurate so keep an open mind..

Yay it's officially an argument now.
Zitat von NeilR
I just caught myself trying to think of a response, just for the sake of having one.
A lot of that leads to a retarded, useless conversation.
I'm gonna go back to studying Western Civ now.

There is nothing outside the universe because the universe created space.
