Homebrew FAQ
By LarryR
Whatcha need to know Homebrew : noun, made-up, pronounced : hoembreu --- user made applications/games that are made for systems in which $ony has implemented ANTI- unsigned code technology...AKA nuts to you $ony.
FAQ : idk, abbreiviation of F REQUENTLY A SKED Q UESTIONS, pronounced : effayyqu or fauk --- a collection of the most commonly asked questions for helping n00bs or other unacquainted folk in the fields of the entire universe and everything within...hmm, CAQ? umm, i prefer FAQ.
n00b : noun, made-up, pronounced : noube --- put it this way; if you reading this, you are a n00b.
Intro
This is my guide on the Recent FAQ of PSP's in General. I will do mostly my own Questions and Answers, but, when something hasn't changed in years, I may use other peoples work. I will ask, of course, and place a small note saying who originally wrote it, and ask permission. If you have read my other guide, you'll know it follows the same format. Maybe a bit different.Please note that this is my attempt to help folks, and may not be the greatest way to fix problems with you PSP. I hope I can help some people.
NOTE: This version is still not %100. Please bear with me.
HOW TO USE:
This is an example of how I will show you the FAQ areas.
Q: Is this a FAQ question?
A: Yes. Yes it is. **cough cough** moron
++(end of question)
I will organize it in categories, like so: Need to Know , Hardware , Homebrew & Other . I may add more categories as I go on with the edits.
Need to Know
Q: How do I use my PSP?
A: Really, are you an idiot?
++
Q:Is homebrew worth it?
A: Absof**kinglutley. But only if you like the idea. If you like to keep things updated to the latest and don't want to have to mess around with stuff that most people have never heard of, then its not for you. Unless you like change.
++
Q: What is the latest jailbreak?
A: Jailbreaking stuff is the Ipod/Iphone. But that latest CFW for the PSP is 5.50 GEN-B, or 5.00m33-6. Install here at this GUIDE. By Leo9891
++
Q: What is the good homebrew?
A: Check out my other GUIDE. By me(LarryR).
Hardware
Q: My PSP memory card (mem stick) will not read/show all data that I know is on there! I check from the PC! Its on there! What do I do??
A: Backup your data on your PC, then format you mem stick on your PSP itself. It will revert to normal, and if not, you mem stick may be shot. Repeat, or start from a Clean Mem stick, and reinstall all of your programs.
++
Q: My PSP will not turn on...help OMGWTFBBQ!?
A: There can be multiple solutions to this problem. Lets start with the basics.
1.
a) Place the battery inside the PSP.
b) Charge battery.
c) Slide switch to Power position, then let it slide to the Middle position when the green light turns on.
d)All of the above.
2.
a)Make sure that your battery is OK. If it does not work in another PSP, or doesn't charge(charging issues may be another problem), then the battery may be SOL. Replace with a Sony battery if you can afford-they are better.
b)Double check the battery connections. Make sure it is in. Test you PSP's workability by trying another battery. Or try a Pandora, and see if the green light comes on.
c)If all else fails, you PSP may be damaged, or at least the switch. Replace it/fix it with a HACKABLE Psp. Yes, that means the pawn shop/Cousin Ed's. Or, go with a sleek new 3000 and hope for HEN-compatibility.
++
Q: The green light comes on, but the screen remains black. What do I do?
A:
a)The battery is a Pandora. Get a regular/switch to regular.
b)Hit any button.
c)Make sure hold is OFF.
d)You PSP might be bricked. Refer to this GUIDE. By Elite999
e)You screen may be damaged/connections loose. Get the screwdriver, a very small Phillips precision, and take it apart genteelly, and check the screen and connections. Refer to this GUIDE. For slims/brites .
++
Q:There is no sound. WTF?
A:
a)Make sure your volume is up / not muted.
b)Double check that there is supposed to be sound e.g. music, games, etc.
c)Plug in headphones, and check for sound there. Depending on your skills/financial situations, you may be stuck with this.
d)Disassemble your PSP. If you can, replace it.
++
Q: Nothing works. My PSP is totally dead! What do I do?
A: You PSP may be NFG. Replace/take apart. But post your problem in forums; somebody might have an solution.
Q: My mem will not read- at all! What the hell?
A: Test your mem stick in another PSP, or check it on the computer. If there is data on the other PSP/PC, make sure it was inserted right on the PSP and make sure you fully turned off your PSP before inserting it. IF you still get nothing, then format it on another PSP, if possible, or the computer at last resort. Then try it. If you card works in other PSP's still, and not yours, replace/fix your PSP. If the Red light does not come on AT ALL, you reader is shot.
++
Q: My Wireless does not work.
A:
a)Make sure your Wireless switch is on. Its either on the side (PSP-10xx) or the top (PSP-20xx/PSP-30xx).
b) Try to find a Wi-Fi connection, and see if you can connect. Best if you know where a Wi-Fi is. If you know it is there, and cannot see it when you attempt to connect, then maybe your Wireless card in the PSP is shot. Try in more than one location/spot.
c)Make sure the green light comes on whilst attempting to connect to the network. (The green light above the mem stick access indicator. If it blinks, you PSP is trying to connect.) If the green light does not come on, perhaps your switch is broken. As always, fix/replace.
Homebrew
Q: I have no homebrew.
A: Download some. This is much on this site, and many others, like PSP-hacks . Make sure you are in the "Game>Memory Stick" category on your PSP.
++
Q: My homebrew is so cool. How do I get more?
A: Next question, please...sigh, look at the previous question.
++
Q: Ok, I was, like, playing a game, and it, like crashed, and now my PSP doesn't, like work, dude, like what do I do?
A: Make sure your PSP is fully off by holding the power button up for 5 seconds, then turn it back on. If you get the BSoN (Black Screen of Nothing) then you should repeat that step, with the memory card removed. If it works, insert the memory card whilst in the XMB. If not, then reinsert your mem stick, and go into the Recovery Menu, and disable your plugins(if you have any). Then try to load the XMB from the RM. If all else fails, use Hellcats Recovery Flasher.
++
Q: My PSP is reallllllll glitzy. Like music and photos wont work, or randomly freezes. WTF!?
A: You may have a plugin error. Disable all you plugins one by one in the recovery menu to find out which one. If the problem persists, then try a key cleaner, such as THIS. If that fails, use Hellcats Recovery Flasher . If the problem persists, report the problem in the forums because it gets to complicated to answer in one FAQ.
Other
Q: My PSP's CFW is nice, but why is there no later firmware for the new cool games coming out?
A: Sadly, the m33 devs have said there are no plans for 6.00m33. The HEN devs are looking into this FW. There are multiple people/teams out there that claim to have a 6.00 CFW, but there is no proof. If proof is released, then the PSP HB scene will jump back into high gear, but as of right now, the future CFW seems to be dying of hunger. You may have to go with $ony's way to play your games....sigh. Give us a break $ONY, you ignorant control freaks.
Thats All Folks

This version is in the guides area, but it is not 100%. I still have many questions to answer, but it'll be updated as I go along.
