Default [GUIDE] HEN D and DevHook for 2.71 Installation (12/5/06)

TA-082 DOWNGRADER FINALLY RELEASED!!!!

If you're only installing HEN D to use a downgrader, then only follow
Sections 1, 4, 5

DO NOT TALK/POST/ASK ABOUT ISOs
DO NOT TALK/POST/ASK ABOUT ISOs
DO NOT TALK/POST/ASK ABOUT ISOs

Official Warning to those who want to talk about ISOs

Q: cAn tHIs bRIk mY Psp? (Can this brick my PSP?)
A:NO YOU CAN'T BRICK YOUR PSP USING THIS METHOD! YOU HAVE TO BE REALLY, REALLY, REALLY, RETARDED TO BRICK YOUR PSP AND YOU MUST REALLY, REALLY, WANT TO BRICK YOUR PSP USING THIS METHOD!!!!

FOR TA-082s
First of all, this does work with a TA-082. I can confirm this because I have one

Second of all, you will need to upgrade to 2.71.

Don't argue about it. Just lay back and accept it...

Reasons to upgrade to 2.71
  1. Much better to load EBOOTs natively on a 1.50
  2. Flash Player
  3. Downgrade back down to 2.50 (NOT ANY LOWER!!!!!)
  4. EMULATE 3.01!!!!!!!!!!!

***TABLE OF CONTENTS***
  1. Update to 2.71 xcjeosj
  2. DevHook0.45 for 2.71 Installation kfrpekr
  3. 1.50 Firmware Installation oxmsowv
  4. HEN D Installation/Upgrade from HEN A, B, or C bdpoejm
  5. Now To Put It All Together... skeioxd
  6. Devhook0.51 Beta for 2.71 Installation (for 3.x emulation) djroxel
  7. Homebrew Installation exckieo

Spoiler for UPDATE TO 2.71 xcjeosj:

Update to 2.71 [xcjeosj]
  1. Download the 2.71 EBOOT update from dl.qj.net

    http://dl.qj.net/Firmware-2.71-PSP/p...8046/catid/163

I think that's for the US version.

I know that it probably doesn't matter but try to get one for your region.

  2. Now place it in your GAME directory in a folder called UPDATE

  3. Now go get your AC adapter, plug it in, and start the 2.71 UPDATE in the memory stick option under the GAME Icon.

    **waits for you to update**

Now, you should be at 2.71

  4. Download These files
DevHook Launcher Port to 2.71 (now with support of 2.71 flash)
    [devlauncher271_2.rar]

Homebrew Enabler for 2.71 (HEN D)
    [hend.rar]

  5. Extract all these files somewhere you can find them. Preferably separate folders.

Now we need to make a decision.

Do you want to emulate 2.71 from flash or emulate it from a dump?

FLASH EMULATION
Advantages
  1. requires less space on Memory stick
  2. Keep your settings the same (WMA playback, Flash, etc)
  3. faster loading

Disadvantages
  1. Access the flash chip (NO REPORTS OF PROBLEMS WITH THIS)
  2. cannot customize
  3. Cannot boot 2.71 from 1.50

FIRMWARE DUMP EMULATION
Advantages
  1. Very easy to customize (gameboots, bootsounds, fonts, menu, etc.)
  2. keeps flash access to a minimum (for the flash paranoid)
  3. Enable emulation of 2.71 from 1.50 (not really necessary cause you can just emulate 2.71 from 2.71 anyway...)
Disadvantages
  1. Slightly slower loading time
  2. Requires more space on Memory Stick
  3. Need to customize settings again

So follow the guide in either order:

Emulate from Dump:
  1. DevHook for 2.71 Installation
  2. 1.50 Firmware Installation
  3. HEN D Installation

Emulate from Flash
  1. 1.50 Firmware Installation
  2. Devhook for 2.71 Installation
  3. Hen D Installation

I will be ordering the guide to emulate from dump. I think its much better.
Remember the choice is yours.

Either way, you can do 2.71 --> 2.71 emulated. It's just a matter of preference.

What the Heck Are READMEs?
In the the rar files, you will see some files called README.txt or LEEME.txt.
LEEME means README in spanish for those incapable of learning a second language.
These are basically instructions from the Dev him/herself telling you how to do it but usually its very simplified.

These files are NOT REQUIRED to be in your memory stick. You may delete them if you want. BUT BEFORE YOU DO PLEASE READ THEM.

Spoiler for DEVHOOK0.45 FOR 2.71 kfrpekr:

DEVHOOK FOR 2.71 INSTALLATION [kfrpekr]

Now to install DevHook for 2.71
  1. Go to where you extracted the DevHook for 2.71 files. [devlauncher271_2.rar]

You should see a folder called MS_ROOT

Go inside and it should look like something like this:

  2. Now copy both of these folders to the root of your PSP memory stick.

Spoiler for 1.50 FIRMWARE INSTALLATION oxmsowv:

1.50 FIRMWARE INSTALLATION [oxmsowv]
you need to find a 1.50 dump for DevHook.

You will need to ask someone to give you a link because I cannot put the link HERE.

In any other way, shape or form I COULD tell you but I can't post it HERE.

Otherwise the Gods of QJ will strike me dead!(**waves to Mods**)
Well not dead but warn/ban me or something.
  1. Now that someone has kindly given you their 1.50 dump, check it.
It usually comes in a folder called dh.

go to dh-->1.50 to make sure it has these files:

If it does great, if it doesn't well ask someone else....

  2. Go back up one folder and select the dh folder and copy the dh folder to the root of the PSP memory stick. If it asks to replace then select yes to all.

Spoiler for HEN D INSTALLATION bdpoejm:

HEN D INSTALLATION [bdpoejm]
For HEN A, B, and C Users
It is highly recommended to update to HEN D. When you are finished upgrading you can delete the HEN C folder. You will be using the HEN D folder now.
  1. First go to where you extracted the HEN D files. [hend.rar]
You should see a bunch of files and folders like so:

  2. Go into the folder called MS_ROOT. You should see files like this:

  3. Copy all of these files to the root of your memory stick.
If it asks to replace select "Yes to all".

  4. Now go back up to the Hen D folder.

  5. Go into the folder called DevHook. You should see files like these:

  6. Also copy these files to the root of your memory stick.
If it asks to replace select "Yes to all".

The root of your PSP memory stick should look like this now without the readme/leeme files:

Well that was fun...

no it was actually quite tedious...

Spoiler for NOW TO PUT IT ALL TOGETHER skeioxd:

NOW TO PUT IT ALL TOGETHER [skeioxd]

I recommend cold booting the PSP before running HEN D.

**waits for you to cold boot**
  1. Now go to the PHOTO directory and select the HEN D folder.

  2. Now there are three different situations that can happen within 5 seconds.
    1. Nothing happens. You stay in the XMB and the memory stick flashes alot. Don't worry just hold the power switch up till it resets. Its okay nothing happened. Try it again.
    2. Screen turns blue and then red. This means that the files that were supposed to be written to flash0 were not written. Again, don't worry. Go back through the guide and make sure you copied all the necessary files for HEN D and try again.
    3. Screen turns blue and then green. SUCCESS! HEN D has successfully written the necessary flash files and should reboot(I think. I don't remember if it boots after the first time.). If it doesn't, reboot it yourself and run HEN D again.

Please note that after every cold boot that you will need to run the HEN D tiff file again. Don't worry it only writes to flash0 the first time you run it. After that when it successfully loads, you should see a blue screen only. I've had it hang at the Blue screen once or twice but its nothing to worry about.

  3. Now that your 2.71 has been patched go to the Memory Stick option under Game and select "DEVHOOK0.4X launcher for 2.71" Now it'll go through the boot screen.

  4. You'll be presented with a menu. In this menu, Circle is to confirm and Triangle is to cancel. Now here you can select your options. You can change the CPU speed to 333Mhz, Choose UMD settings, etc.

  5. Make sure that under the firmware option, you choose 1.50

  6. Now that everything is set up, select Start on the menu. Now it should go black and the memory stick should start flashing. This is DevHook loading the 1.50 files.

  7. You may get a screen saying that the "Game Could Not Be Started". Thats ok just hit circle or whatever and you should be looking at an emulated 1.50.

If you found that confusing. Check out Henkibojj's video of running HEN C and DH for the first time.

Congratulations, you just beat Sony. (Thanks Sony for the great gaming system)

My TA-082 emulating 2.71. I never noticed this before. Has this always appeared. Pretty Neat.

Here's my screenshot using PSPshot of an emulated 1.50 on a TA-082

And YES that is my MAC address. I'd like to see someone do something with it.

Spoiler for Devhook0.51 for 2.71 djroxel:

Meh I'm just going to be incredibly lazy about this and just link to -Dman-'s awesome guide for installing Devhook0.51 for 2.71 BETA

Spoiler for Homebrew Installation exckieo:

Homebrew Installation [exckieo]
Install all homebrew in x:/PSP/GAME

For folders that look like homebrewname% change it to:
Code:
%__SCE__homebrewname
folders that look like homebrewname change it to
