The Wikipedia Foundation has released the official Wikipedia application in the Apple App Store. Available now for download, the Wikipedia Mobile is a free application that allows iPhone and iPod touch users a quick access to the world's largest and most popular online encyclopedia.
According to Jay Walsh of Wikimedia Foundation, Wikipedia Mobile users will find the application easier to use than having to browse the web on their phone to find a specific fact, and also had the advantage of saving the user's search history:
Our mission is to spread free knowledge; we want to do everything we can to meet and embrace that audience. Our intention is to house the source code and continue to update the application through Apple channels with subsequent releases. Then, obviously, take it to other platforms like Palm and Android. We want to take the same tool and make it work in other spaces.
