i think, for the fun of it, we should all take over a few systems, so any one browsing by will see we're taking over! :D lol
We will be doing that, but not for "fun".
It's logical to have a place that we can fortify well and have good fast trade roots in.

And we're not going to find a totally free system, but we might get lucky and be able to take at least 9 of the free slots.
Branching out into 2 might be a good idea?

We need to wait till people have colony ships though and send them out on the same day.

well Freshmilk is almost ready, he was planning on moving to the planet right next to me. i am finally making good progress with resources making 429 metal, 171 crystal (and about to upgrade), and 73 deuterium in one hour. and i have a shipyard and research both at level 1.
plus i am receiving a shipment :)
I'll have colony ships tomorrow.
I'm not too far from colonies myself. More raiding and Ill be there soon enough. So at least wait for me?

Well, I always have colony ships lying around.
Well Lah Dee Dah Mr. Richpants. lol. I'm progressing pretty fast I think now.
I can build a colony ship today if we want to branch out.

it would make for way faster shipments...
If we can find an empty galaxy we could get all of SRS into it.

My colony ship will be built in about 15 minutes. Does anyone need a neighbor or is in a hostile system? If not, I'll just try to pick a system that gaps the distance between alliance members somewhere.
Edit - I found a system with a 5th planet slot open and jumped on it. They have the highest likelihood to be one with a big field I think. If my ship makes it there in four hours without someone else taking it, I'll let you know where it is.

My colony ship arrived and the planet is about average size. I was hoping for a 200+ field planet, but this one will do fine for the time being:
