SCEPTRE X24WG - It had a mail in rebate on it. It has one dead pixel, which luckily lands right where your gun is in first person shooters, so it doesn't really bother me that much. Additionally, it looks like crap when displaying VGA at 1920x1200, but looks very nice in DVI. I don't know if this is just a downside of VGA, or if it is truly a problem with the display.
erm,if you think a 9600GT is better than a 4850,keep on dreaming. The 4850 is competing with the 9800GTX after all. From what I've read,2 of these in CF almost performs as well as a GTX280,least where CF scales well.
but im guessing the $300 was for both cards?
I cant really find any benchmarks for the 9600GT in SLI to compare it to 1 4850 tho
Do you know who I am?
lol,why would you even need to upgrade?
My laptop has a 7900GS and my desktop a 7600GS
I'm the one that needed an upgrade
One other note about my system cost, heres some other costs that went into it
1. Windows Vista ($100)
2. ATI 3450 ($35) I dont have any other PCI-E cards just to get my system setup
3. Keyboard and Mouse (~$80)
4. DVD Burner ($35)
so I coulda bought a second card if I didnt buy that other stuff fo the same price
Was your system build have extras like that or was it just core parts?
I think as far as 3DMarkScores go,I dont see the point in showing off an unstable score. I want my computer to play games with good FPS's and look good doing it,not try to piss farther than the other guy.
As for extra stuff on my system, I didn't need any of that. I'm using a crappy keyboard and mouse that I had lying around. I installed an old version of my Dell XP on there. A friend of mine let me borrow his Vista DVD and I installed that as well. And then, of course, there's Linux.
I was referring to the 9600's to the 9800's
If I was in your shoes,I would just wait for the 280's to go down in price (a lot),and just get one and not worry about SLI.
Off topic but I had to share this:
I bought some AS5 to replace the Zalman thermal paste that comes with the 9700NT and decided to do some stress testing with prime95...
With Zalman 9700NT and provided thermal paste at 100% load on both cores (@ 3.6ghz) my temps got to 75C!
With Zalman 9700NT and AS5 at 100% load on both cores (@ 3.6ghz) my highest temp was 65C!!!
Idle temps went down like 4-5C
And no, it's not freezing cold in my room either, the temps in my room were about the same during both trials.
what program do you use to check the temps?
I get way different numbers with like Hardware Monitor then compared to like...Speedfan/Asus program/Realtemp
HW Monitor is also showing a 1.07 vcore, lol, and my core temps are 48/44
75C isn't really anything to be worried about (imo). I've read in a bunch of places that you should really get worried at 80C. Also 75C was only cause it's summer and my room gets really hot.
anyone know a good after market VGA cooler for a ATI 4850?
as you probably have heard, those babies (the stock reference board models) run pretty hot. Not to mention I might try to OC it. I would also like a cooler that would hopefully not restrict me on adding a second card (it cant be too tall basically).
Think this one would work? I got a good 120 mm fan mounted in one of the HDD cages in my Antec 900 case that could blow air across it.
EDIT- nice to see Xigmatek have one too,tho its a little steep on price
I know for a fact that cooler is very good, but it doesn't mention the 4850 in the specs section.
do you expect a card thats been out for less than a week to be on a list of compatible video cards on a manufacturer's webiste? lol
EDIT- I think ive read somewhere that the 3870's might have the same mounting holes as the 48xx's,gotta check tho
