A couple months ago I bought a GTX 260 OC...and overclocked it a little further than what it already was...
I've been playin a few games here and there Fallout, Crisis, Batman Arkham Asylum, Prototype... I'm noticing framerate drops, and jagged edges, sometimes even when my Anti Aliasing is maxed... For instance I played Batman on Xbox 360 and PC and the PC version is no where near as smooth... So I'm hoping someone can help me out and tell me whats wrong with these specs... AMD Phenom 9500 Quad Core Processor GTX 260 Overclocked to 640/1405/1150 I have 4 GB of ram (1X2GB PC6400) + (1X1GB PC5300) + (2X512GB PC5300) I'm curious if this is it? maybe if I buy another 2GB 6400 stick it would fix it? 550 watt power supply Any help is appreciated guys! |

Going from the internet, I would say a possible bottleneck would be your processor being clocked at 2.2GHz. Though it is a quad core, most apps aren't really optimized to use all cores efficiently, so that could be a problem.
I would try assigning only 2 cores to a game and see if that changes anything (Start Game > Task Manager > Right-click process > Set Affinity). I could be completely wrong but its worth a try. With those specs, the RAM wouldn't really be much of an issue.

That RAM is more than enough to run most current games, although I would go with p0p0, the CPU isn't being used to it's fullest which most games don't even do.

Thanks for the tips you guys.
I tried the Affinity suggestion and set the game to only use cores 0 and 2, and I do believe I saw a performance increase... Would I see any sort of improvement in performance by going out and buying another 2GB pc6400? The frequencies of the smaller ram sticks are lower than the 2GB, so its being clocked down to their speeds....if I replace them with another 2GB stick that can also go to 800mhz wouldn't I see SOME sort of boost??? |

Looking at your RAM's setup:
(1X2GB PC6400) + (1X1GB PC5300) + (2X512GB PC5300) I would go buy the 2GB and remove the 1GB and the 2x 512MB. Having the same amount of RAM on fewer chips would be faster I believe, especially if the newer chip clocks higher. I would try it if it was me. Just ditch the 1GB and the 512's and see if theres an increase in speed. If you have extra slots you could put that 1GB back in if you wanted to. Also, are you using an x64 based version of Windows? You should check (if you don't know) if you right-click My Computer > System Properties. It should say if it is x86 or x64. x86 only supports up to 3GB RAM, and x64 supports up to 128GB. I'm assuming its x64 if your system does have 4GB of RAM already, but if not, you should upgrade.
