just make that it has optical zoom, cuse all digital zoom does is crop the picture
also make sure that it can take video, it's always good
and make sure the video you can take has sound
the one my gf got didn't have sound with the vid :/
I agree make sure its optical zoom.
Regarding video tho you may as well not bother as digital cameras are terrible for video unless it is an actual videocam. In which case you can get a video camera and take still shots on that. Its much better that way round but they tend to cost a bit more.
