Heh. me too.
Not that the pictures on it are bad, but it's just an irritating design, and I always lose people's pics.

Not actually got a point there, I'm just saying.
i used to do photography for pornography shoots back in japan.
*ahem*..
Lucky biatch. I want to get into "photography". A girl at school invited me over to her house on saturday for some.
not hardcore mind, i had no desire to see asian men and their (sterotypically small) extruding features.
I was however propositioned countless times by the subjects of these shoots, all of which i turned down without thought beyond, "id they'll put out for the dude behind the camera, i'm probably safer and healthier to say no".
And thus to this day i have never had an STD, :/
Nicely.
Is now a good time to get started? Or should I leave it? I'm 14 btw.
to get started, yes. To expect to sell anything yet. No, it takes years of honing your skills to get to the point to sell your photos, my dad raised me since i was old enough to hold a 35mm camera, i learned on a really old canon, manual focus, manual everything. it was amazing, then i moved to a minolta 35 mm SLR. then i moved to a canon EOS rebel, then to an EOS digital rebel, and hopefully im getting either the new sony or the EOS digital rebel XT.
learn how to develop your own photos, i still have my EOS rebel (not digital) and i develop my own pictures manually. Its like a right of passage

Anyway before i get a rep for posting right after manny 100 times a day, photography is something everyone can do, but someonething only some can do well.
Thanks to todays technology, there are many aids to help with taking great photos and doing some really nice work, however theres a few factors in photography as im sure manny and others can also confirm on.
Luck
Being in the right place at the right time helps bundles, be it to catch a sunset or sunrise that lasts a few minutes, or to snap a picture of a wild animal up close, im sure everyones been somewhere at some point in time, seen something and wished they had a camera.
Vision
The ability to see not what you can see with your eyes, but have a good idea of how something would look through a camera, with a specific lense or focus, to imagine the view you see with your eyes, through the eye of the camera, and most importantly have the knowledge to translate this image from mind to film (or stick), also having an eye for color, composition and lighting helps ALOT.
Timing
It's really easy with photography to take a picture a sec seconds too late, or too soon, or even at a slightly different angle, and have it turn out not so great, when your first starting out, a camera with a relatively fast respone and repeat time is good, as you progress you'll rely on taking multiple pictures to get a single good shot less and less as you'll approach things with a more planned mindset.
But for beginners taking a burst set of photos or multiple photos of the same thing (even f you feel it looks exactly the same through the viewfinder) can result in some supprising differences in quality.
Focus type
Being able to disable auto-focus is something i would suggest all budding photographers look for in a camera, while autofocus has its benefits at times, for planned or detailed photos, being able to set your focus manually is a great help, im not sure how it is for others but all of my sony camera have a manual focus ring, turning this not only adjusts the focus manually (duh), but the viewfinder zooms in instantly to allow you to focus with greater accuracy.
SLR/DSLR/DSC
These would be :
Single lens reflex
Digital Single lense reflex
Digitial stills camera
Much like manny suggests being able to develop your own photos is an amazingly satisfying experience, especially for photos that turn out great, so selecting the right camera for the job is important, just grabbing a generic polaroid or film camara will no yield great photos, you really have to move up if you want to do things with class.
However this does not actually mean breaking the bank, there are many great SLR and Digital camera available for amature to pro ranges that don't dent the pocket, an example of one would be the CybershotF707 or F717, even though they are great (and often underrated) camera, and quite old too!, they often sell for buttons these days, you could pick up a F717 now for $220 ish.
You have to keep in mind however for SLR is that you will be paying for media for it, and for a novice that can't afford to do that it's probably best to get a cheaper digital and practice your skill before moving to SLR (back in the days when i, and most probably manny began our forray into photography, digital cameras didnt exist, so we've most likely been brought up with film based cameras), that does not mean however that digial cameras arent good, because as me or manyn can show, digital camera are also very great.
As for the rest, that is for you to learn yourself, there a million of photographers and each and every one has their own little quirks about approaching things, the best thing to do is find your own and work with it.
