I've never used gimp and want to know if its actually better. And yes, I do know its file is smaller and that there is a hack to give it the photoshop feel, but in terms of quality and usability is it better? (more effects, all kinds of saves, etc.)

no, photoshop is better, and has more fetures, already with it, and even more fetures you can download...
photoshop is the way to go...
gimp is good cause its free, thats it. photoshop is alot better

Photoshop hands down.
K, I use Gimp because it's free. It's been good so far, but I know it is missing alot of functionality from PS. I'd say stick with PS unless you wanted to know what it feels like to run into roadblocks with image effects and such.
The main thing that Gimp is really lacking is brushes. You cant customize, add effects, or do many things to your brushes (which is what I use most) but the good news is that if you are on linux (like myself), wine (im not sure which version) supports up to photoshop 7, which should provide you with almost everything you need.
Well.. you get what you pay for.
Edit: Which actually won't explain the majority because no one pays for anything anymore.
