I am going to download GIMP later and I am new to making graphics. I am willing to offer 10000 points for a good tutorial to using GIMP similar to Deturbs. Make it simple and easy for beginners to follow.

Seriously I think I'm the only person on these forums that uses GIMP (besides you now) and i don't know what Deturb's sig looks like, so I can't make a tutorial about recreating it. If you need any help at all though I can, I think its pretty easy to do web graphics and stuff.

Wait, you just want a tutorial in general? It's so easy! Just use common sense, and when you're not sure what to do, just search in google. The buttons on the right toolbar are more important, sort of, like new layer, visible/invisibilize layer, right click on the background in a new image and click add alpha channel... when you make a new layer of text right click the layer name and click alpha to selection and then you can do all sorts of stuff like cut other things in that shape, or stroke your selection...
I just figured most stuff out on my own.
No, like a tut that takes you through making a first sig, like deturbs. I am trying some stuff, but so far it isnt going to well, lol.
this any good?: http://www.gimp.org/tutorials/
Those are alright, I will check them out.
Holy crap, there a some awesome tuts there!Zitat:

Why? Would you be happy if I just copied and pasted one of the other ones?Zitat:

Alright sounds good. I will need more help, Im sure.
No because they dont really help you most of them are not in-depth and confusing I need stuff thats like step by stepZitat:

Look in the forums at www.gimptalk.com , there are much more tutorials, and many of them are more geared towards beginners.
does anyone know how to change the modes ex. Set the layer mode to color
I use GIMP too sometimes. I either use that or Paint.Net. I am interested in learning more about GIMP too. I might check out that website sometime tomorrow.Zitat:

i would make a tutorial just for you TO, but sadly i dont know gimp... at all...
i say photoshop is the way to go, but most people dont have the money or are against piracy...
Yeah that would be why right there. It's cool though, I'm starting to figuring it out, by trying some of the tutorials at GIMPtalk.comZitat:

omfg...why dont you use imageready?Zitat:
Zitat von TeamOverload
Imageready come for free with the official 30day trial from adobe for photoshop, but you get to keep imageready...It's almost the same thing as photoshop with like 70% of the features..
Ill write you one T.O. I use gimp everyday. ill just need a little bit of time to write it.
Alright, I am looking forward to it.
Getting Started With Gimp. A tutorial by Pyro_person6493
Getting Started...
Things You'll Need...
1) Gimp Runtime Enviorment. http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/g...1.zip?download
2) The program Itself. http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/g...p.zip?download
Getting Started...
First Install The Gimp Runtime Enviorment. This Runtime Enviorment Is Needed To Launch The Gimp.
Next you Must Install The Program Itself.
Open The exe Program. Click Next. Click I Agree Radio Button.Click Next. Then Install With Defalt Options.
The Gimp Is Now Installed On Your Operating System (os).
Running Gimp...
The First Time You Start The Gimp It Will Take Longer than normal. It Must add the brushes and file settings.
the next time you run the gimp it will take a lot less time.
Your First Image Or Sig...
When Gimp starts you will see two windows open and the tip of the day. you can close the tip of the day.
On The window with te titile bar stateing "The Gimp" (without quotes), Click file. scroll down to new and click.
choose the dementions of your image or choose a template provided with the gimp. Then click ok.
that window will close then a new window will open with a new blank image.to add files to the image (other mages) drag
and drop the image onto the new image. if the image is to big or small, you can scale the imgage to make it smaller by clicking
the scale button in the 3rd row down and 4th button over if you didnt resize the gimp window.click on the picture. Another new window will pop up
asking the dementions of what you want the image to be. then lick the scale button. you can also click on the image and drag
it to your desire. if you want this image to be your background image click layer button on the top of the window.
click new layer. only click it once. then click image button on the top of the window. scroll down to flatten image
and click. Now in the other window that in the title bar of the window says "Layers, channels, path s, undo, ect" without the quotes.
here you can see and edit your layres, make them transparent, or change the opacity of the layer. To change the opacity click
the layer you want to work with and select it. now there is a bar at the top of the layers area. drag it to whatever
suits you. To Add a new layer on the image, click layer on the top of the window. scroll down to new layer and hit it till a new window pops
up.(if it deosnt pop up the first time its because you have a floating layer on your image. just try it again.)
a new window will pop up. it will ask you for the layer name, layer height and width(do not changa these),and what kind of layer you want.
to select the layer you want. there are four choices. foreground color, background color, white, or transparent.
select one.then click ok. You have just made a new layer! if you do something you dont want just click edit, undo history,
then click. you can select the image before you did the thing you did not want to do. Finsh the image by experimenting
with the buttons in the gimp toolbar and by adding effects by clicking filters, then scroll down and select the option you want to do.
it will bring up a new window with the settings for the effect. i will not go into much detail here cause if i did we'd
be reading a 35 page long tutorial. :p
Saveing The Image...
PLEASE NOTE :when you save the image i highly sugest saveing to the gimp format(.xcf) and in the other image format(.jpg , .gif , .png). If You
dont, then if you want to change one layer of the image you'd have to have the sorce. with the other file extentions othe than the gimp,
before saveing the gimp will flatten, or change to animation (only on .gif Format). Before it does however, it will ask you.
To Save The Image, click file, save as. it will open another window.it will ask you for the name, where to saveit, and the extention.
to select an extention, click on "select file type (by extention)" without quotes, and you can choose the extention to save the file in.
click save. if you have not flattened the image down to one layer, another window will open saying the image cannot handle transparty/layers.
This will not happen when you save the image to the gimp format.) click flatten image or save as animation if you want to make an animated gif.
Another window might open if you've used a cirten extention. ittle just ask you for options like interlase the image, or a comment into the image proveing that
you made it.
Thats all the basic operations of the gimp. if you would like me to write a more detailed tutorail with images please let me know and i will.

Nice work, I will donate your points.
pyro_person6493 that is a great tutorial but how do you swith between layers to edit something
to switch between the layers all you need to do is open the layers window(the other window that is opened on the startup of gimp) and select the layer you want to edit.
Thanks T.O. I hope you liked it.
How do I open the layers window? I closed it once and now it never opens on startup.
@T.O.
i dont know. i did this on my laptop and i cant get it back open. but i learned my lesson on my PC when i installed it on there. ill try to find out why ill post back later cause im at my grandmas house and she doesnt have the gimp instsalled on her computer.
EDIT: i did a little research and to open that window again you need to click Dialogues, scroll down to create new dock, scroll over to layers channels and paths. i think that should help. im still at my grandmas so i cant double check.
Yup that fixed it. I just need to figure out where to get some gaming renders and then I am all set.
you can also download some cool fonts from dafont.com and use them inside the gimp to give them a little edge.
Yeah, I have already checked there and got some. Thanks for all your help.
Alright, here is my first sig. It isnt great, but for my first try, I dont think its too bad.
I will have to post it later. I got a bunch of errors while trying to upload it.
ok. im looking forward to seeing what you have done.
