David Amor, co-founder of Relentless Software, recently spoke with Develop Online for his take on the current issues that gaming is facing today. One of them is the PS3-Xbox 360 duel, which he believes to be a challenging ordeal for Microsoft. The Xbox creators may be up in sales right now, but the PS3 still has one huge ace up its sleeve - the fact that it's PlayStation.
My feeling is the PlayStation, as a brand, remains enormous. That s something that Microsoft is going to have a problem with," Amor said. "PlayStation means video games, and it s a cool brand, so I wouldn t underestimate how much this works in Sony s favor. It s a great machine, it s a powerful one, and it has a lot of potential." Amor acknowledged though, that Microsoft has come far in terms of endorsing itself as a gaming company despite the Windows image.
I think that the Xbox 360 has reached a lot of people that it was always going to reach core gamers and outside of that key demographic is a lot of people look upon Microsoft as the company behind Windows and Office. They re clearly going after the wider market with their Natal technology, but it will take great games to draw them in. People bought a Wii for Wii Sports, not for the Wiimote.
