You guys mention hacks, what kinds of hacks are being used?
You guys mention hacks, what kinds of hacks are being used?
vbulletin hacks, they add features to the forums for a price (security/speed), basically every hack you install, you're adding another person you must wait on (to update their hacks), in order to update to a newer version of vbulletin, and since myst went doolally with the stupid hacks, i'm pretty damn sure he's completely lost track of what hacks by which people are installed, so updating the hacks, let alone the vb install will be a nightmare, probably why this forums running 3.5.4 with some 'critical security updates' applied, when the latest version is 3.7.0rc2Zitat:

If any other Admin had the ability to do the upgrade, we would do it.
'any other' would suggest that mysticales has that ability, the past several months of 3.5.4 pretty much prove he doesn'tZitat:

IMAGES ARE BACK happy face :)
poor justins going to get ripped a new one for it T_TZitat:

Is that by any chance FrozenIpaq? Because he just posted a thread with images which is the first place I saw images, and suddenly he has 2,000,000+ posts...
He's had that for a few weeks now.Zitat:

I re-enabled images for the time-being as many have noticed..it hasn't affected the speed by disabling them :p Today's a crucial day, we need pictures! I can't live without them! It's a nice present from us to you guys, but don't be surprised if they are gone down tomorrow - we still are working up a fix (it's image-related, hence why we had to disable them)Zitat:
Zitat von El Xando
Wait... I can see my sig and your sig normally, but -Alex-'s sig still has **** in the place of /img. Wait, do capitals effect? /img /IMG
The problem is the way Myst went about restricting images. He'll have to re-do his signature if he did it during the time of the image restriction. all he has to do is put /img in place of *** and it should workZitat:

Hmm funny thing is I did it before, ah well lol.Zitat:

One problem I think is vB itself. The forum system is great but the HTML output is horrid, although this is one problem that just can't be fixed by anyone but the vB team really.
Something that would speed up the OT forum a lot (and probably the forum) is deleting the MD Party Room and possibly all the older OT topics (which have 0 archive value).
Also increasing the default amount of topics displayed in a forum could take some pressure off the database.
You'll have to remake your box as I wiped the database since you first made it... the plus side is that you can now use your own image as a background (just make it have the same layout as the original). ;)Zitat:

Forums arent slow for me.
The only thing that is slow is the MDPR thread.
if i may i would like to make a suggestion, if images are uploaded to a site like image shack or photobucket, the link in the image tags is a direct link to that image if it was a url so if it is possible after a thread is so old, somehow automatically replace the image tags with normal url tags, this will then take up less space and speed up the time it takes to load while the viewer can still see the images if they want, you could also default all url's to go into a spoiler on that post that has the title of url's or links which would shorten the size of the old post more
The images aren't stored on the QJ servers, though.Zitat:
Zitat von FaT3oYCG
but it would shorten the size of the post and it wouldn't matter if the images weren't stored on the qj servers because it would be changed from the image to the link and put into a spoiler why would it need to be stored on qj ? that would just take up qj server spaceZitat:
Zitat von Moose Island
It would shorten the size by about eight characters ? That massive post above Mooses doesnt make sense to me fatboy. Could you write it in seperate sentences please? :/
I'm not saying they should be, I'm saying they aren't...
Zitat:
Zitat von FaT3oYCG
i didn't mean in physical file size just in post size e.g. height, it would also make that post/thread load faster as it wouldn't have to load the images
Unless you are on a 56k modem and the image is above normal signature size then loading times shouldn't change. Although I do admit, I did notice a difference with images disabled.
I noticed none. One thing that needs to be changed is not loading images that are in unopened spoilers. That is so ridiculous.
i notice a difference if you get a chance try it put some images on a post, then reload the page and see how long it takes then change them to url's and it loads faster, well at least it does on mineZitat:
Zitat von Moose Island
A spoiler doesn't make any difference, the image is still loaded.
yeah i thought it did sorry, but changing them to url's does work i have just tested it on my adhoc thread because i changed the images back to display them, and put them in a spoiler but apparently the only thing that does is save spaceZitat:
Zitat von Moose Island
Why always **** with the forums?
It was working fine for me.
Why fix something that isn't broken?
Meh...
That's only making a difference on your end.Zitat:
Zitat von FaT3oYCG
The images are not stored on QJ servers. Disabling them doesn't have any effect on the server speeds. The only speed difference is client side not server side.
SO why were forums images disabled forum wide and not just on mysts end?
Re-enabled now.
Not a clue. I assume it was discussed in the Admin/Supervisor forum. The rest of the staff are as much out of the loop as everyone else.Zitat:

Heres a good idea to you all.
Spring clean up with users less than 5 posts.
It will help because mysql can only take so much.
Users with no posts who registered at least two months ago, and users with less than 50 posts who haven't posted for 3 months.
There are some people in the PSP Forum that logs-in everytime they are gonna release/update their homebrew and I know most of the has less than 50 posts.Zitat:
Zitat von El Xando
Some of the images aren't working...like images in posts.
That's because of the way Myst disabled images. Instead of disabling them in admincp it was done by censoring /img and /IMGZitat:
Zitat von -CHW42-
I dunno that there's anyway to fix them all without going through and manually fixing them all. Any that I've come across I've done but I'm not going out of my way to look for them.
that's stupidest idea of disabling images.
Imageshack can't cause the slow down because it's on another server and not QJ server.
The only way that cause slow down here is QJ server. If you guys start a imageshack clone on this server then woah boy, get ready for ultimate slow down!
Just do the unactivated users with 0 posts because I experience of having a forum before. the more users, topics, posts you get, the slower the forum will be.
Hopefully all staff members are listening this. please just re-enable the damn images, pointless idea.
-= Double Post =-
It's like myspace, it overkills 56k and does unexpected errors because they got too many people registering and doing nothing. Also having too much garbage. I bet the only way Tom fix the unexpected errors is clean up inactive users so the server wont get confused.
Like Registry on a PC, too much junk on it will slow down the computer unless you use a Registry Cleaner.
Edit: Also their is a option on peoples profiles that they can disable avater and sigs (like I did) for faster way to view the forum. which helps 56k users alot. I was dial up users once but now I switch to Hughesnet but I still keep it disable.
