Just tried to send you guys a news tip..
But got back 3 messages, with a long list of people it couldn't send the email to.
Is there anyone/editors still on this distribution list that actually receives the user submitted entries?
Just wondering?

From my experience with submitting news...Every few days the news posters go to other forums and post the same things those forums have on their front page. Submitting tips doesn't seem to do anything productive other than annoy the submitter.

to which email address did you send it to? we do get tips just fine from our tips@qj.net addy.
If for some reason the tip doesn't get through, you can always post news as a thread in the forums - no one's stopping you from doing so. We could pick up your tip from here. ;) If the tip system doesn't work the way it's supposed to, you could also PM us via these forums (there's me, there's Mabie over there, there's IsaacC...) with your tip too, and maybe even add a link to the thread you've created.![]()

The news tips barely ever get through. You might want to look into getting it fixed for the many people that dont visit the forums instead of trying to "do a myst".
The forums (Nowadays anyhow) seem to get found quicker and more often than the tips email account.
I gone and made that one power spoofer and that gay cheat device.
we'd love to have your tips, of course! hopefully with the new social network accounts we've created (facebook and twitter), the avenue for communication will be wider now. that way you'll have more options for sending in your tips: email, forums post, or even just a quick hi over at facebook chat. :)
do know that we are trying very, very hard to cater to everyone here -- although we know that's impossible. but with your continued support and understanding, we'll get there. :)
I'm going to be as straight with you as I possibly can here. The primary channel of sending tips will be through the QJ frontpage. If the frontpage doesn't work and the person doesn't come to the forums you have just missed out on a tip. Because submitting tips doesn't work!
If you fixed the frontpage instead of faffing about with social networks you might salvage what's left of this community.
we acknowledge that there is a problem with sending tips from the frontpage, and believe us we're still trying to get it fixed. it's a hit or miss with that system. some of the tips go through just fine, while apparently, more are not as lucky.
that is why we prefer to have an alternative option in the meantime instead of just conceding to the problem. hence the other avenues in the form of the social networks. we're not about to be buckstopped by some persistent bug.
needless to say, we are taking full notes of your feedback.
I got three emails like that when I last submitted a news tip.Originally Posted by MAILER-DAEMON@garibaldi.swishmai l.com
Yes. A couple other people have pointed out the same thing and sent us a similar error message you got too. I'm not an IT person, but from what I can see, the problem lies in the tips getting sent to the other bloggers who are no longer part of the email forwarding list. Hence, the bouncing back.
Thanks for the info JaX. (Though I personally remember taking some of your tips and writing about them myself. Those tips which got through, at least. ;) ) Imma go prod someone here to get this sitch investigated. I'm personally tired of all these bugs. I want them squashed NAOW. *prod prod prod... poke*![]()

Yes. One of the tips you sent in which got through - and which I myself wrote... - was none other than the lead about the release of DAX's M33-4. ;)

Keep in mind that I don't know as much about internet programming as I do about computer coding, but you could be checking if certain email providers are the cause, or if certain browsers may be affecting it (I don't know if this is it), etc. As much as you want to do, creating social networking accounts and other stuff, you NEED to have a link on the frontpage because nothing is going to matter otherwise. You know how many gamers and other people who use electronics don't use these social sites? Many. You may think that many do, but most do only for close family and friends, not gaming news sites.
And, think about this, if someone does find their way into the forums, they might not think it's worthy of their time, seeing that it doesn't look very appealing still. So they'll leave, and if they don't have a social networking profile on a site, they'll decide to not bother with QJ anymore. Do you really want that to happen?
Keep in mind that I'm only trying to help the site with these posts. But you make me want to :Argh:

Yeap. Don't worry, spike. I'm not taking it against you. LOL Cuz really. This whole tipping problem is making me go :Argh: as well. Ah yes, misery loves company, huh? LOL
But yeah. Thanks for the info. I'm taking your feedback as objective as possible. Your insights are useful too. So thanks for that. ;)
Hmm? What link are you talking about? A link to send us emails? It's there in the frontpage. There's the link for users to send us tips and another link to contact us about anything.
Admittedly though, I think these links are kinda hard to find. And I think it'd be in everyone's best interest to have them at a more visible area on the blog. I'm thinking we can have them either somewhere at the top, or maybe below the user login box. Layout, however, is a wholly different issue in itself.
But back on topic, true, there seems to be some problem with tips getting through (the issue which basically started this whole thread hehehe), but I've already contacted the people necessary to have this investigated.
I've yet to hear results from them, but as an update on my side of things though, I can confirm (to a degree) that the tips do reach us somehow, even though at your end, MAILER-DAEMON errors bounce back into your inbox.
See, I tried this myself, and got pretty much the same bug. The "test" tip/contact email that I sent through the online forms ended up in my inbox, but in the same process, I got error messages too. I can't say for sure if this applies for all cases though. For one, the attachment option doesn't work.

Mischief managed!:Jump:
I'm happy to tell you guys that the tipster links have been fixed.
(woot! that's one problem taken care of... now for the next bajillion other left...)
Yes. That means no more MAILER-DAEMON errors bouncing back to your inbox! Both the "contact us" and "send us news tips" online forms on the front page are fully operational* (caveat below).
Thanks for all your feedback, guys! To FOC_Reaper for starting this thread, JaX, spike, ...you guys know who you are. And those who replied in thedan's QJ needs your help thread too. Yes, I'm here for the community and I'm listening.
So there you have it. If you want to send us tips or just want to contact us for whatever reason, you have those online forms on the front page (see the links above).
If you don't feel like it, you've also got other alternatives too. Post a thread here in the forums and hope it gets picked up. Send us a PM via our forum user accounts. Or... give us a shout out via FaceBook. It's your choice.
*- err, except file attachments... D'oh! :Argh:
