Operation: Positive Posting
Every day, we here at QJ Forums are astounded and amazed at the collaborative Community that has been established by our members here. You will be hard pressed to find a better place to discuss and ask questions about the PSP on the internet, and it's because of many of you who contribute to our little section of the PSP "scene".
Due to the helpfullness and popularity of these forums, we have a quickly and constantly growing member base. This is a good thing and a testament to the Community - the more the merrier! But many of these "newbies" have stumbled upon our site unawares of all the amazing things the PSP can do, and these people are greatly varied: Young and old, tech-savy and not, good typersand bad, patient and not so patient, English speaking and not so much. Some of these people have never been to a forum and don't know how simple it is to find the information that has amassed here and is just waiting to be found. Some of these people are just unresourceful and kinda lazy. But ALL these people are welcome!
Operation: Positive Posting is our effort to make this site helpful and friendly for everyone, and encourages the following initiatives:
- Respect the opinions and thoughts of others, regardless of how incorrect they may be.
- Be patient with new community members - if they can be helped by reading a Guide or FAQ, welcome them to the forum and kindly point them in the right direction. If it's an often posted topic, direct them to the Search Function in a friendly and polite manner - no teasing is necessary.
- Post with Purpose! These forums are very busy, and we are a GREAT resource and repository for alot of useful information. However, it's hard to sift through this information with posts that don't add anything or contribute to the discussion.
- If you're going to take the time to post "Use Search!", take the time to give them an answer. Otherwise don't bother replying. Posts consisting of nothing other than "Use Search!" will not be tolerated.
- Make an attempt to post in the proper forum. For instance, general 2.0 Firmware questions/comments do NOT go into the Hacks or Homebrew forums. It should go into the General Forum.
- If given the option, it's always better to reply to an existing thread instead of creating a new one. There's alot of people here with alot of ideas and/or problems - most likely YOURS has already been discussed.
- If a topic is being debated, keep comments to the facts at hand - try not to criticize someone else's opinion, no matter how wrong you think it is.
- Insulting another member or "flaming" is never necessary under any circumstances.
- Do not chastise someone for making a redundant post or asking a "noob" question. If a thread needs to be closed, leave that to a moderator - taking care of such things is their job, NOT yours.
- If a post is clearly in violation of site policies and/or needs attention, click the
under that poster's username to report the post and a moderator will attend to it. Resist the urge to reply as this just makes the problem post more visible by bumping it back to the top of the topic list.
- Read and be familiar with the PSPUpdates Forum Posting Guidelines, Piracy Policy, the Ultimate Homebrew Guide/FAQ as well as this amusing and informative video clip, Posting and You.
As part of our effort to encourage PSPositive Posting, the moderation staff may impose 1 day bans on users who find it difficult to participate in the Community in a positive, helpful, and friendly manner.

Wow, I was posting the exact same thing in that "OTHER" thread just before you locked it. :) I'm really glad someone acually took action to this since this issue is driving people away, witch isn't a good thing. Some people will write a paragraph or 2 just to end up telling the other to use the search option when 3 or 4 words could've answered the question. I myself, am very glad to help people when I can, and so should everyone.
I do feel that bad vibe and its driving me away too. From now on, I will report jerks posting hot gas so to speak if this is indeed taken seriously.
I can only hope to see improvement ;) .

It's certainly a positive step to making this a friendlier place, BUT whether it becomes standard practice or not rests solely on the mods constantly nudging offenders in the right directions.
Noobs posting the same tired questions when the answers are in stickies or a FAQ are certainly frustrating for everyone, specially old timers.
I'll do my part to be positive from now on, BUT people should also be expected to do theirs and search first or at least read the guides and FAQ...
If not, I'll try to point them to one.

Zitat von PrimeUser
Zitat von MalumEnSe
I've been a "forumer" for a long time now, and I don't mean just on PSP Updates. The same standard code of etiquette applies to just about every forum in existence, but even moreso for technology-related ones.
You are right, one should be respectful of everyone, including new or "noob" posters that may not yet understand where to find or how to look up certain information that may already be available. But respect is a two-way street, and it is my feeling that it is a person's duty to do the minimal amount of research needed to discover how to search for information, or to spend an extra three minutes searching, before posting something.
I'm not saying that people should be allowed to fly off the handle at "noob" posters. But it isn't necessarily horrible for someone to get annoyed at someone who refuses to take a moment to search. Then the individual is putting the burden on the community to search for the information. That is disrespectful to the community.

But most of these noobs don't know better and will never know better if all they get in return are saracastic comments and flaming. That's the point of this Operation. If you're going to take the time to post, at least point them in the right direction if you're not going to give them the answer. What we're trying to put an end to is people taking the time to post only to harrass and tease the noob.

I agree to a certain extent. Some people live to ridicule people, and that should be stopped. On the other hand, some people are very lazy and would rather impinge on others to look stuff up for them than to look for themselves.
Zitat von MalumEnSe
They will never learn if people hold their hands for them. You really don't NEED a guide to find information at this site. I didn't.
*shrug*
I'm not trying to argue or anything. I just think that if there is a posted rule not to ridicule or chastize newcomers, there should be an equal but opposite rule or suggestion that newcomers should try searching around a little bit before asking where to find something.
Certainly protect newcomers, but also understand that it is rude and frustrating when people do absolutely nothing to find something on their own.

There are several points to Operation: PSPositive Posting that are meant for the noob population, not just the experienced posters, so don't feel that this is directed ONLY at that group. ;)
But the fact of the matter is that 99% of the noobs won't read this, or the Posting Guidelines, or the Ultimate Guide, or use the search. That's why we're not demanding that you help noobs, just that if you are going to reply to them either give them the requested information or point them in the direction of the afore mentioned sources where the information can be found. You can do all this without ridicule and if you can't, just don't reply. :)[center][b] [url="http://forums.qj.net/showthread.php?p=177883"][color=Orange] The Definitive MPH Firmware Downgrade FAQ

This thread has given me renewed hope in being an active member of this community. I check this website more often than my email but I rarely post in the forums(as you can see). It seems like no matter what you say, if it contains an opinion you get flamed. I once got flamed for poking fun at myself! Positive vibes rock and I am very grateful for the vibe this thread is emanating!

I was just pointing out the fact that its hard to be positive in this forum. Too many noobs. You should have to have 50 posts before you are allowed to post...even though thats impossible, but its only the people with <50 posts that are annoying and retarted

If the other guy meant that NEW MEMBERS should have to have at least 50 posts before they start a thread, that doesn't seem like bad idea although number is pretty high OR maybe a certain number of days?

I hate to be a negative factor in all of this positiveness  but sometimes some questions make me wanna hit my head on the wall. I mean some of the answers to those questions can be found online with less effort than registering for this forum!!! Now I will admit I am still a noob and have many things to learn but at least I know where the lines are drawn.
PS I never insulted anyone on this or another forum...In general I try to be as positive as I can be.

P.S. Operation PSPositive I think should be enforced more strongly. It's becoming a somewhat increasing problem. I have even seen noobs tell new users to "search noob" when the answer isn't even obvious. It's like it's cool to tell people to search now...

Yes, it does. Some questions are just utterly ridiculous.
P.S. I am not saying that I have never broken Operation PSPositve, because I have, but I think the policy should be enforced so that it gives everyone a good reason not to continue flaming.

Ditto. But unless some No-Tolerance rule is put in I dont think it will happen. Besides it doesnt hurt to ask a question. They get shot down in flames but then the n00bs learn
. And if it was enforced that strictly i dont think people would want to stay on these forums...
