Default PS3 mods vs. PSN

Hi,

I've recently started using a PS3. A mate of mine used to own an Xbox and had it modded to enable him to copy and play games and DVDs to/from the hard drive, as well as replacing in-game music with his own.

Does anyone know if this type of mod exists for the PS3 and, if so, can I still use PSN without getting caught out?

Thanks

G

He's lying to you. Xbox has both those features where you can burn your games on your hard drive and play it off there and they have in-game music meaning you can play your own music on any game.

Fair enough.

Is this possible on the PS3 or does it require a mod? If it's a mod, can I still use PSN without getting caught out?

No kind of mod is available for the PS3, and I doubt there will be for a long, long time.

Only certain games allow you to use your own music and even if there was a mod it wouldn't be discussed here.

Of course it would be discussed here, that's why it says "Mods and Media", a Playstation 3 mod isn't exactly illegal to discuss unless it involves bringing copyrighted material into the equation... even then it'll most probably be discussed anyway :]

Will neva happen. Maybe if PS4 comes out and someone finds an exploit and Sony doesn't bother patching it, which I highly doubt.

I like unicorns.

Its only a matter of time for the PS3 to be modifiable. We never imagined the likes of the PSP to emulate our favourite SNES games on the go a few years ago did we? Homebrew is definitely getting more efficient.

Nope, Sony looked at the PSP and thought "We should throw every kind of security precaution into the Playstation 3 so it'll never happen on our Big Black Box"

So far it seems to be completely true... =/

I do believe that *someday* the PS3 will be running homebrew though.

Nope, a while back we were able to run an NES emulator but Sony fixed that.

Closest thing to homebrew is linux where you can run SNES and NES emulators not sure if theres more.

Linux can't be considered homebrew because it's an official Operating System, nothing like executing arbitrary code.
