HowTo use PS3Linux and Play Games on a Computer Monitor.
PART I - without HDCP LCD/CRT monitors
For it you go need or a HOMEBREW VGA cable, here we go use this. There are XGABOXes... but like me many others dont wants spand more money ont it ... I plan to buy a HDTV...
The circuit schematic:
Howto configure the PS3 to use VGA HomeBrew cable:
pass 1, use a TV and go to display settings
pass 2, on this point you cant see anythink on TV (RGB mode) and LCD/CRT (not 480p) too.
pass 3, press down and X (if a JAP model press O), this turn on 480p mode.
pass 4, in this point you can see the image at LCD/CRT, if not power down the ps3 and press and hold power button for at least 8 seconds this back the display configuration to defaults
On games the 480p resolution is very better then use a SDTV. :Jump:
Shot Resistance: Fall of Men
On Linux, the text mode is perfect, but graphic mode is bad because this cable only do 640x480, but yes is better then use a SDTV
Howto loads the linux, on correct mode for works with homebrew vga cable:
Edit the file /etc/kboot.conf, search for line linux='kernel= .....' and add this below, inside single quotes:
linux='DONT CHANGE THE REST video=ps3fb:mode:162'
PART II - HDCP compliant LCD monitors
First All, we need to know about HDCP, what is?
High-Bandwidth Digital Content Protection
What I need?
High-Bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP) is a form of digital rights management (DRM) developed by Intel Corporation to control digital audio and video content as it travels across Digital Visual Interface (DVI) or HVisual Interface (DVI) or Hface (HDMI) connections.
- A PS3 (duh!!)
- A HDMI to DVI-D single cable
- LCD HDCP compliant monitor
What Sony say about it?
*Depending on the type of TV or content to be played, some video modes may not be supported. If a device that is not compatible with the HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) standard is connected to the system using an HDMI cable, video and/or audio cannot be output from the system.
Copyright-protected Blu-ray video discs can only be output at 1080p using an HDMI cable connected to a device that is compatible with the HDCP (Highbandwidth Digital Content Protection) standard.
How it works?
