Native resolution is 1024 x 768 with temporal AAx2.

it runs at pratcically every resolution. my HD set is 1080i Only so thats what i'm gonna have to use.
1080i looks great with the 360.

Everyone has been doing a real good job with putting stuff in spoilers, so thanks for that. I did get one PM regarding some spoilers, so please use a just little more caution when discussing plot points.

On topic - I only got about 20 minutes worth of playing time tonight, but I think this game is beautiful in pretty much every department so far.

Got my copy today and I played for something like 5hr and 30min on Solid Normal and completed Act 1. The game starts off by giving the player a small taste of combat and then scales to intense war at times. I love the detail and how the player is affected by the environment and whats going on. Oh man this game keeps me on the edge of my seat, so much suspense and a very nice job in dividing up cut scene length and game play time. Must buy for any PlayStation 3 owner.

i haven't even started playing :( :( because i don't want to play it SD. so i have to wait until i get my paycheck tomorrow so i can go buy component cables

I'm playing in SD right now (since I'm in the middle of repairing my HDTV) and it still looks stunning.

I'm starting to get a bit better now, but I'll still die like 10 times before I finish a checkpoint.


On a side note, I never realized this game had so much comedy.

Just a little frustrated, that certain magazines/sites gave it a low score. When it clearly deserves a 10. Especially if GTAIV did. Its just going to deter more new comers.

Yep...it's 6am over in my place and I have just beaten the game. What a great way to end the series (at least I think it'll be the end). And I also ranked Eagle (10th). =].

Oh and graphics on this game = awesome. I wish I played on my HDTV in 1080i (unfortunately)...but oh well...I have several save files so that I can go back and watch certain scenes.

Very nostalgic game

Surprised me that the Snake Eater cast turned out to be The Patriots. That was a real twist. The whole segment with Eva in the church was a very wtfff moment, though.

When they showed the cast credits and they stopped on "Big Boss - Robert Doyle" I was like what? Who's Robert Doyle I've never seen him credited before... and then they show Big Boss in the final final ending..what a trip haha

Man...Raiden was supposed to die like...at least twice...first under the rocks then the ship...it was like WHAT THE HELL? HE'S STILL ALIVE? Hahah

Raging Raven - Took me a long ass time... Beat on my...3rd try? I ended using my last 3 remaining rations and all 8 of my noodles xD
Crying Wolf - Took me a long ass time too... I couldn't find sniper
Praying Mantis - Now this took me a stupidly long time when it shouldn't have...but at least the nostalgia made up for it =]...and LOL at the MGS1 reference to the controller and gameplay ahha

Yeah it came in a black slip, the graphics look amazing even though its just an animation of snake smoking but its in great detail. (30%) :)

At various points in the game it becomes apparent that when shooting enemies, they keep coming back over and over again, take all of them out except one guy, then run in to pick up the ammo/weapons and purposely let him see you, wait for him to call for backup then immediately kill him (let the commander comfirm backup is coming) and retreat back to the previous spot, a platoon of soldiers will come in their place.. just rinse and repeat, it's especially nice if one of them keeps spawning with a good weapon..
i played through once, killing everyone, rebels AND PMC, by the time i had completed the game i had 980,000 drebin points
Of course, this effects your final ranking but if you want more drebin points its either this or scavange like crazy without getting seen, or killed, for extra drebin points after each act.

Also.. some nice touches..

1) When hal is explaining the virus to destroy GW, he turns and in the reflection of his glasses for a split second you see the late naomi hunter, then a few moments later the camera turns to him and you see his sister reflected in them..
2) Hals mini rex on his desk :D
3) how in the plane hal has policenauts posters, modern ones.. then back at shadow moses he has the ones from the 90s
4) during briefings CHANGE TO THE CAMERA THAT LOOKS THE DULLEST... there is something minor in there that... is rather spooky (only AFTER you've found the camera, btw)
5) the grilling hal gives you if you set your controller to number 2 during the mantis fight
6) being called a dirty old man for solid-eye-binoc'ing meryls breasts during a gunfight.
7) using the actual mgs1 (playable) during the flashback - (do it avoid getting seen for a nice item ;O)
8) i personally ****ing LOVED this little touch, but how when you return to shadow moses and go through to the section you defeated sniper wolf in 1, you can go left into a branched off section.. and the hind D you shot down almost 10 years ago is lay in ruins (take a snap of it if you have the camera).
9) the various points during cutscenes where you can hold L1 to see from other peoples perspectives
10) the gorgeous decay of shadow moses, and the temporal audio shifts to codec convosations had during mgs1
Theres hundreds more little things in there but it's up to you to find them.. enjoy it.

How many acts are there? I'm just after doing the second install after a playtime of three hours (excluding all the times I died during the drum checkpoint... so probably more.. Solid Normal)

It's so similar to MGS3 but times ten in the awesomeness department. My M4 got so buttery after I added the scope to it. There was a moment where I took out about ten guys and I had to put the controller down and say holy **** wow! So many OH!1!****!! moments, I don't want it to end.

I'm probably about 7 hours in and I figure I'm about 1/3 through Act 2. I'm really taking my time, checking all the soldiers I dispose of and racking up as many Drebin points as I can.

At first I felt that Uncharted was still the graphics king on PS3 but not after seeing Liquid, the plane right after you get knocked out before the first mission briefing.

Half way through Act 2. Woah this game is intense.

No way is it going to be a 9-Hour play through for me, it'll be atleast 30 hours. Its taken me 5+ hours to get up to where i am. I've been taking my time and checking out everything. Those Spyker launchers are awesome!

if you want an additional tip, if you have spare rations, walk up to a rebel soldier with rations select and hit triangle ;)

Also for those wondering, drebin points and all weapons/ammo are carried over to the next playthrough providing you save after you complete the game, the weapons/ammo become available after meeting up with the mk II

i'll put these here right now for the sake of anyone getting stuck with the bosses... DO NOT READ THESE UNLESS YOU ARE COMPLETELY STUCK

Using knife attacks will lower his psych, and projectile attacks will lower his health, but neither are going to help one single bit, the only way to kill him is to select your nanomachine suppression injector (the one naomi gave you) into his neck, do so by selecting the injector, getting close to vamp and doing CQC (r1) then hitting triangle to inject him with it..

Spoiler for Screaming Mantis:

Rather easy if you don't mind using machine guns, a pain in the ass if you're going for the tranq gun method.
you need to inject yourself with the nanomachine supressors to release her hold on you, then shoot the dolls hung either side of her until one falls off.. then run over and pick it up, enter weapons screen and equip it as a weapon, L1 to aim then R1 to fire (then keep em pressed) then shake the controller back and forth to shake mantis to peices.. and whala! done.

like i said, DO NOT read those unless you get stuck.

why not? if you do it a few times they give you stuff too ;)

Sometimes they are generous. If you're psyche meter is low and you need a power drink, they usually drop one for you.


Gamespot just gave it a 10/10.

anyway.. on my 8th play through, i intend to complete it entirely with zero kills and zero detections.. i may be gone some time ;)

That's my intention as well. I think I've racked up around 300 kills and I'm only a few minutes into Act 2. :ROFL:

Just from playing up to Act 2, I can say that I'll be playing quite a few times. It's probably one of those games you play annually.

Holy crap that was an amazing fight. Each time I got hit when she rolled into a ball I lost about 3/4ths of my health, and each time she started laughing hysterically. The whole simulation thing was really weird too, especially when she turned into Naiomi. Her whole backstory was interesting too.

Spoiler for shadow moses:

When you first enter the base, do not, i repeat, do not attempt to kill the 3 legged balls, more will come and if you're not careful you'll draw the attention of the gekko outside.

Spoiler for Last level tips:

On the last section where you have to run to the core GW and implant the virus, you run through several straight corridoors, then the acton flicks to meryl and johnny, when it flicks back to snake, two of these rooms contain 3 legged balls.. LOTS of them, you need ALL the health you can get for the very very last bit, the best way to get past the balls is to continue running forward and do a forward roll just as you run into the pack, this knocks them upside down letting you continue forward, roll a few times but keep the pace moving forwards

Got it at midnight, played till 3am woke up at 9am and finished at 10pm, god damn that was a long day yesterday. Anyway, anyone know what lalelulelo means? I know you had to kinda dig for its meaning in the game, but I couldn't figure it out. Next run through ima' try to get the assassin's emblem.
