I have LocoRoco on PSP, and though its by no means my favorite PSP game (and I'd say fairly overrated in some aspects), Its a really great game. It's very original and implemented some very clever and tricky squash and stretch collision detection.
When Cocoreccho was announced, I think most people assumed it to be a copy of the first one, with new maps and SIXAXIS controls over use of the L & R buttons. It turns out its not like that at all.
Cocoreccho combines the same style of LocoRoco with game play elements similar to Mario or Donkey Kong 64. The whole game takes place in one confined world, but you have to keep playing it through to unlock more and more of the world.
Instead of controlling LocoRoco, you actually control Cocoreccho, which Im sure everyone is aware of by now. The LocoRoco inately govern themselves, intuitively following a path toward the end unless blocked or influenced. Cocoreccho is like a band leader whom the LocoRoco follow ever-so blindly. The butterfly seems to attract the LocoRoco by farting.. strange.. And the LocoRoco apparently all have severe ADD as they'll stop in their tracks to marvel at the cute little butterfly..
Anyway.. so far I've been able to find and obtain 83 LocoRoco with access to the 60 Mui Mui gate (though I havent actually had a chance to open the 60 LocoRoco gate.) There's a total of 200 LocoRoco to be found which will require playing through several times to unlock Mui Mui gates, each requiring more LocoRoco than the last, to open. For 8 bucks CDN its been very fun.
