im about to buy a ps3 from a someone who is giving me a good deal on it. He lives really far away (1 hour 20 minutes just to get there). He has a gamestop 1 year warranty on it. My question is if it happens to defect for whatever reason can i go to my local gamestop and use it or must i go to his gamestop. He has the paperwork and receipt for the warranty and ps3. I looked at gamestop.com but cant see any faqs about their warranty policy.
The best thing to do would be to call gamestop. They will be able to tell you their warranty policy.
I am a manager for a GameStop. As long as you have both receipts, the PRP (warranty) slip and the actual receipt you can take it to ANY EB Games or GameStop nationwide and have no issues replacing it.
I will warn you tho, that often times the store you are swapping out with will ask you to try and go back to the store it was purchased from, but they will still do it.
I must also inform you that you will NOT be able to get your save files and stuff from the hard drive. So if you must claim the warranty on your PS3 backup your stuff as often as possible. Because it will be gone for good. BUT your Playstation Network stuff will be fine. Just re-enter the account info on the new system and you can re download everything onto the new console just fine, and your friends list and everything will carry over.
Thanks a bunch! gonna be a proud ps3 owner soon :)
