With the release of the PS3 in Europe just hours away I wondered if the "so-what attitude" to it all that is evident around my peers where I live in the UK is reflective of the opionion across the rest of the UK and Europe?
When the PS3 was first confirmed all those years ago it was exciting and like many others I wanted one and the buzz was infectuous and this machine was billed to be the Games console of the century. I am a big Sony fan and generally like what they do in all their electronic markets, I had the PSX, I pre-odered my PS2 all those years ago and I remember having to get a collegue to pick me up a PSP whilst on business in Japan! So natuarlly when the big sales outlets started taking names to be contacted for when pre-oders would begin I put my name down on every list that I could.
However here we are now in March, I didn't follow up on any of the pre-order opportunites for the simple reason that there is only so much that a company can do before people turn around and say - no thanks!
- Once again its more expensive Europe than any other region
- We have had to wait longer than any other region due to various production setbacks
- backward compatibility, not to bothered about but the fact that its not provided 100% like it is in all other regions why is this not reflected in a lower price?
- No 20GB model
So hows it all going in the UK, I'm sure Sony will be able to show figures from somewhere tell you that they have never seen demand like it, after visiting my local highstreet I got a very different story, I was told by a friend who works in one of the big retail chain stores that I could probably walk in tomorrow and pick one up - no queing at all and no need to pre-order.
I had around £500 put aside for ages to get the 60GB version with a game - will sony be getting my money now - unlikely. The choice of games is laughable, there is not a single bundle deal advertised that makes me think otherwise. When GTA4 emerges then I may re-think my desision, for now I will hold on to my money and I am sure I am not the only one.
Interested to know if I'm being over-pessemistic or if this is others feel about tomorrows launch as well?
