QJ's not the nicest or most caring forum in the world :(Zitat:

Actually, it is. Alright, to start, I am not saying anything bad to people with cancer because I have a HUGE family history of cancer and my mom has a brain tumor, so don't think that this is just bein' a hater. Universities are paid MILLIONS of dollars to do these kinds of things, and instead of buying their own GPU's, computers, and PS3s, they decide to make the public do it for them so instead of using the MILLIONS OF DOLLARS on what they're supposed to, they give pay raises like mad, and then do what they're supposed to with some of it, and say, "See, look how much we've accomplished with this much money, and imagine what we can accomplish with more." And the government will keep funding them more and more, and when it comes down to it, we're the suckers. Lets say it was MY PS3 that found the cure for all cures of cancer or discovered the whole human genome somehow with [email protected] Would I get something? No. Would I even be recognized by the media or by the millions of lives that were saved? No. Stanford University would be, though. When you're at this level, you think you're making a difference, but actually, its a big scam just to use your $600 processor for someone else.:Argh: Sony should have looked into this before forcing this on the XMB on every PS3 that can update/is connected to the internet.Zitat:

People have been [email protected] on their pc's since 2000 I beleive. The PS3's are much faster, so why shouldn't I help out? They are not forcing us too do it, it doesn't run by itself or interrupts a game just to fold. Some people's PS3 won't even fold once in their lifetime.
It's an option, not a burden. Stanford created the program so yeah I think they should get the credit. If you have checked their site lately you would see that they praise us PS3 owners that fold and appreciate our help. Im sure they have a bunch of PS3's there, just folding and folding only.
I dont think making it an option is bothering anyone at all, and who is it hurting to set it to auto run if you leave it on the XMB unattended for more than 5 mins? I do it proudly, I have nothing to lose and neither does anyone else. I remember some post on QJ a while ago that said the ps3 if left on for a month folding would use $27, thats it, I spend more than that at starbucks in a month.Zitat:

so if i get the intercooler and leave on my ps3 everything will be fine?
Did you read the thread? It will be fine leaving it on without an intercooler.
Are you helping people or looking for fame? I think you just want fame from helping people. :| Why would you want to tell people that you've "contributed something"? How long will they remember your name? Do we even know the name of that person who invented numbers? The concept of making your name remembered forever is very absurd... just like how you want to ask for some kind of credit for doing something.Zitat:

I'd be more afraid with an intercooler connected...mainly of fires....Zitat:

I agree with you.Zitat:

Who cares if you get 'fame' or a reward? Surely potentially saving lives would be reward enough?
That's the real reward, knowing that your part in folding is helping people overcome rare diseases and even cancer.Zitat:

Im sure if anything comes out of [email protected] Stanford will mention the huge jump in processing power that the ps3 users have genorously offered to help them figure out exactly how proteins fold.
I have no faith this will actually acomplish anything, but what do I know. The last disease they actually cured was Polio. They'll just find some way to make an expensive drug that'll make you live with the disease, and make you have to buy the medecine for the rest of your life.
Trust me, you wont be seeing any "cures" come of this. Maybe a sh*t ton of drugs, but no cures.
Well that would be step one for the Med Ind. Stanford needs to figure out why proteins misfold, a cure could be accomplished, it just depends on what information this research gives them if any at all. It's a shame though, because your pretty much correct and I wouldn't put it past the medical industry.Zitat:

I <3 THE NHS
The US is pretty bad, your going to hear more about it soon as well. Living in Canada has many pro's.
I ****in hate Michael Moore, he's one of those people who are people who try to find flaws in everything. Not to mention he's a 9/11 conspiracy believer...Zitat:

He's just trying to get Bush out, I support him in that endeavor. Moore is a bit of a tool though.
No. The people that believe every little thing that he says are tools. He makes up bull**** to get everything to work out in the end. The end justifies the means.
do u think we will get rewarded in the future for using the folding home?
-= Double Post =-
this has nothing to do with helping cancer, its protein research!Zitat:

The reward is the lives saved. You do it out of the goodness of your own heart.Zitat:
Zitat von gameplayer502
it doesnt save lives, its for research
And whats the planned result of the research...Zitat:

so, the thread question got answered pages ago, it's still being discussed why?
I was wondering the same thing. The question was answered on the first page lol.Zitat:
