PS3 is not overpriced. 360 Is.

I love these fanboy arguments. We should start these conversations at some point with people that own neither of the two consoles, that way we'd have an unbiased argument. After all, pretty much everything in this thread is just personal preference, usually biased by which console a person owns.

I own neither of the two consoles, however do believe that the PS3 is the better option if money was no object. I know it does come into it, however i don't think price should come into it too much. Is the best TV in the world disputed because it is expensive? Don't think so.

Although I think the PS3 is then better console, I'd rather buy a 360 now and get a PS3 later, when they are cheaper.

And as for HD-DVD vs Blu-ray, I'd go with blu-ray all the way. I'd rather have more storage space than a better brand name which is cheaper (which is what HD-DVD really is). Also, provisional figures show that Blu-ray is doing better than HD at the moment, look at blockbuster etc. Also, I work at an electronics store in the UK and have noticed quite a few Blu-ray players coming off the shelves at £500, whilst the £350 HD-DVD players have stayed put.

Yea, but did you hear it from the devs mouth? Better framerate, he said it looks fantastic compared to the 360 version. That aside, it's not really a blow to MS though as the game isnt really that good and I dont really see the differences helping the "funness" of the game. At least from the demo I played anyways.

That doesn't work man, they've stated what they can and cant do. They could'nt get 7.1 uncompressed audio on the 360 as well as better framerate (maybe with time). He's just stating the facts. I know what you're saying but he just wants to let PS3 owners know that this isn't just a run of the mill port from 360. It's optimized, which is what needs to start happening more.

honest question:

What is the difference in 7.1 uncompressed and compressed? is it a big difference? or would only an audiophile notice it?

i dont like metal gear solid its an awesome game but i just dont like it

Well i guess an audiophile would buy a PS3 then. Ive been waiting for this game to com eon to the PS3 and to hear that they have been actually working on it instead of just a standard port it great news.

That's pretty cool, and I do admit that the PS3 is more powerful than the 360. But, since when did the most powerful console ever win the console wars?

GameGear+All other handhelds were more powerful, Gameboy won
N64 was more powerful, PS1 won.
XBox was more powerful, PS2 won.
PSP was more powerful, DS is winning.
PS3 was more powrful, 360 is winning.

Also, for the whole disc spaced issue, look at RE4 for the gamecube. Best graphics on the system, long game, 5.1 surround sound, and it almost fit on 1 1.5 gig disk. (It had like an hour or two on the second disk). The 360 now uses DVD-9, and holds over 7 gigs if I am correct.

Also, I only know one other person who has surround sound besides me, and his parents are rich. I also only know like 4 people with HDTVs, and none of them are 1080p (one might be).

I also have a friend who just wants a system and some games. I had a friend who said he was getting a 360, and he was getting the core because he couldn't afford a premium. I even told him that he should get a premium because of the hardrive and stuff, and he just replied with "I just wanna play my sports games". So I was just like, whatever. Enjoy your Madden.

Also a few good games aren't everything either. The PS3 still needs a good variety of games not just MGS4, Killzone 2, Lair, and Heavenly Sword.

It's a lot crisper and high levels are really impressively accurate sounding. Don't personally own one but experienced a good setup @ Whitby Audio/Video store that blew my mind. It's basically crystal clear but only real audio philes will need this and appreciate this.

Yeh, I experienced a really high end sound system that was custom installed, probably 7.1. Sounded amazing, better than movie theatres.

But it costs $5000, so screw it. I'll stick with my surround sound system from the late 90's thank you very much.

According to my learnings (which have been pulled out from, you know where)
The problem with multiple DVDs is not switching them, it is printing them.

Since printing one 50GB Blu-ray is probably ( READ PROBABLY ) cheaper than printing 7 8GB DVDs (for a game that uses up 50GB), it would make sense to print 1 million BR disks for 1 million people for 2 dollars a piece, than 7 million DVDs for 1 million people at 1 dollar a piece.

Keep in mind that no game developer should need more than a blu-ray disk, at 25gb this generation. Hell 2 DVDs is good enough. There's something wrong if a developer used 50gbs this generation, unless it is REALLY mind blowing.

Read userfriendly's sig. The guys at ninja theory have filled a blu ray disk already.

Loads of games will need more then 25gbs. MGS4 is one of em. Confirmed to be on Dual Layer.

Blu-ray is on topic as it is part of the features of the PS3 that contribute to the price tag that it has and the thread is comparing features of the xbox and the ps3 that contribute to the two consoles prices. :)

ok i see your point but whats with the dirt being better and the 7.1 uncompressed and the how much does this game take up and how much a sound system is and run on sentences.

But yeah, hopefully Sony sees what gamers think about this great deal of theirs and hopefully do something that gamers want. One can dream.

The PS3 is like the iphone. Ya you could add up in all the stuff you get in the iphone and it will probably be more than $600 but that doesnt mean it isnt overpriced. And then you then wake up to reality and you realize you just spent $600 on a phone =/

Same with the PS3. You can add up all the crap that was added in the PS3 and it would add up to well over $600 but that doesn't mean its not overpriced. I dont care if the PS3 had a 700gb harddrive, could play HD DVDs, and could play PSP games $600 for a console is overpriced no matter what. Video game consoles shouldnt be $600 at least not yet. The PS3 got a price cut even sony knew it was overpriced this thread should be closed.

COuld change the thread to PS3 Pricing then it could include what sony have been doing about the recent price cuts/rises as well.

I think that image has been deliveratly made to make the PS3 look crap. I work in an electrical store where we have hundreds of people playing with it, lifting it up (no display case) and touching it 12 hours a day, 7 days a week and it doesn't look anywhere near that. The alarm does go off quite a lot though.
