I say wait out for a PS3 til' 2008. By then the library should pick up. The Wii is doing slightly better. But the PS3 is getting more games made for it instead of ports(Except Ninja Gaiden. 2nd Ugliest PS3 game out there. I don't see that much of of an improvement) But it looks like both line-ups will improve as developers start getting used to the hardware. But then. I want all the consoles.
Ever noticed the "p" after the "1080"? :) "1920 x 1080" is the resolution.Zitat:

Yes... but more people play the same Wii minigames everyday... to exercise their bodies. But how many people replay the same PS3 game more than twice? And I am sure I can name more good Wii titles (that are exclusive and are already out) than good PS3 titles (that are exclusive and are already out).Zitat:

People might say buy a PS3 because it has good games coming out.
What's the point?
You might as well wait untill those good games are actually out and who knows, there may be a proper price drop by then or something else.
Next time play both of them and/or watch video comparisons of both before making such an ignorant comment.Zitat:

Watch this, then try saying that again.

@Topic Creator -
My personal opinion... go for it, it seems as though that is what you have your mind set on. You don't need our help to make up your own mind. ;)
This has gone so off topic.
I'm out.
Actually, it's very on-topic.
And to answer the question, I've spent much more money on the XBox 360 than the PS3.
PS3 has the wifi by default (in the 60GB and 80GB versions, of course). The 360 wifi adapter is $100.
I've spent $20 on batteries to power the controllers for the 360. PS3's are rechargable by plugging it into a USB port.
To play online with a 360, you need a Gold Membership, which I paid $50 (a year supply) for. PS3, it's free.
So the tally is:
XBox 360 - $399 + $100 + $20 + $50= $569
PS3 - $499
As for games, they're on the way... I'd wait for the holiday season for them to come out, then buy. Then again, they might be sold out around that timeframe.
Ok let me explain to you. (for give me if this looks long and boring but, its the only way I think you can take a look at things to decide if its worth it for you.)
Part 1: The two PS3's
Ok since this is such a huge question let me try to explain as best I can starting from which PS3 to get, either the 60GB or the 80GB.
Ok coming from me, I would get the 60GB if I were you. WHY? you might ask well...
first off, the 60GB has one of the most important things that the 80GB will not, and that is the Emotion Engine Chip or something like that. What this basically is, is it allows the 60GB version of the PS3 to have backwards compatiblity emulation of PS2 and PS1 games through hardware. Since the 80GB version wont have that Emotion Chip, it will dependent on software emulation of PS2 and PS1 games. Im not a comeplete technical guy or anything to tell you the exact difference between one or the other, but basically from what ive been hearing and what makes sense, it that in the initial release the 80GB wont be backwards compatiable with every PS2 and PS1 game as the 60GB PS3 is now. But since it software, I think most will be easily patched or fixed through firmware, but I sitll consider a big difference for me because quite frankly I have a ton of PS2 games that i enjoy still playing from time to time.
Next point...
The 80GB will have the game MotorStorm included. To be hoenst, ive played the demo of this game and I wasnt overly impressed by it, sure its decent but since im not all about driving games, it just didnt do it for me. The biggest problemw itht he game is it doesnt have enough tracks, though I think a couple have been added through the PSN. But overall this game isnt much without the online(which btw supports voice chat during gameplay, which is a big plus, because this is definatley the type of game you want to be trash talking while your crashing the persons car or w.e. eles).
Next point...
The extra 20GB. Sure its welcomed, but honestly, unessisary for someone like me. I dont store too many videos, or demos or media and keep it in my PS3 for it to be imparitive that i need the extra 20GB for a little more. BUT 20GB is honestly alot more than people make it sound, so its hoenstly pretty good, but that only depends if you have tons of stuff on your PS3 and dont want to be deleting it just so u can put a different movie or demo or whatever! 60GB should be more than enough for almost anyone...for now at least.
Last point...
the $100...
Thats ok let me say well, for me, a person who really wants an Emotion Chip in their PS3 and doesnt really find a need for the extra 20GB for now, and MotorStorm not really one of the games I would buy for the PS3(ya...i know, the game isnt bad, but just doesnt have much replay value from what ive played).
I highly dont consider it for me personally that the $100 more for all that stuff its worth it.
So based on my prefrences I would definetly go for the 60GB model without a doubt.
Now if they replaced the game with Resistance, and left the Emotion Chip inside, then I would definatley spend the extra $100 for the added 20GB aswell. But since thats not the case then NO the 80GB doesnt appeal to me more than the 60GB.
Part 2: The PS3 itself
Ok lets take a look at what your really getting.
1st of all, the most powerful console to ever be released in hostory. The only reason you are not seeing it is because like every console, dont expect to see it fully optimized and its potential showcased, it takes times for developers to adapt, because it is such a huge step in standards, going from what? DVD I belive to something totally new which is the Blu-Ray format. But rest assured things are only getting better, with more quality games coming soon, thigns only can get better.
Now lets talk about the Blu-Ray itself.
Its the newest standard Sony is backing up. WITHOUT a doubt to anyone, unless those ignorant, it is the most capable format, with 25GB of storage per disc, and the dual layer.....50 dam GB's of storage, thats just....WELL YOU THINK ABOUT IT, as compared to HD-DVD(microsofts new format) that supports, 15GB of storage, and 30GB of dual layer storage...As you can see, Blu-Ray based on storage just murders HD-DVD. There are now proto type triple layer discs being developed, with HD-DVD having 45GB of capacity, and the prototype quad-layer Blu-Ray having 100GB!!!!! .....AND NO IM NOT KIDDING, ONE HUNDRED GIGABYTES of storage per disc... I just wanna say that just f***in unbelivably astounding.
Well, now lets see, there is somewhat of a format war going on, and I can say outright, Blu-Ray is going to win, and showing good signs of it already, with companys like BlockBuster only supporting Blu-ray format for there HD movies. Also I belive a ratio of 5:1 that movie studios are backing up blu-ray as compared to hd-dvd. But is it really surprising? Seeing the potential of how much better blu-ray is than hd-dvd its no surprise.
And on one final note...the PS3 is lol.. well...a blu-ray player in itself, and is cheaper than most fo the standalone players, i hear the newst standalone thats being developed will cost $400.....but all teh others are like around $900 range...
So if your going to be buying a console this generation, why not make it a PS3, if u will be watching HD movies sometime, its alot better than Xbox360's HD-DVD palyer add-on that you will have to buy for $250 bucks more. I leave you to compare which is more worth it with all this said.
Next Point...
Sure ill admit the PS3's games out now arent better than the 360's, but its line-up sure is. AND LETS NOT FORGET, the 360 has been out a year more than the PS3 so its not too surprising, but lol look at how fast the PS3 is catching up. So like ive said first when the console hit stores....GIVE IT TIME!
Its funny how Microsoft was planning this, OH CMON LETS RUSH IT AND GET A HEAD START....
Well you got your head start with a 33% failure rate of consoles. What im trying to say is, if you've been reading up on the news, 33% of all Xbox360's ever purchased were sent back in because of hardware failures, which lead to the "3 red lights of death" its when the rings around the power button of the 360 flash 3 red lights. When you see this, think of a bricked PSP. And this happens on its own, its not like you were messing with the internal memory or something, its just a hardware failure of theirs'. And its not just a thing like overheating that cause this, but they made a statement saying SEVERAL FACTORS that can cause it. 33% failure rate is just unimaginably horrible and its why they invested in 1 Billion dollars to give users a 3 year warranty if the failure occurs. Oh and on a final note...EVERY 360 released has the potential to have this failure, so thats like basically saying every 360 has this hardware fault, and can happen at anytime...
Think about it... oh and by the way, the PS3 failure rate is less than 1% (you get what you pay for from a quality company that knows what they're doing and dont rush more make desperate attempts)
Next point...
Well Im not going to bother you with anymore details, the PS3 has free online, it also has wifi. The PS3 has SIXAXIS.....but sadly no rumble, but for any wireless controler ive had i always turn rumble off, because it consideralbey saves battery...
Ah well the other things you can basically think about on your own, like video palyback and easy access to other media, and also dont forget HOME! ...
Thank you for having the patience to read some of this if not all....
Closing Comments: GET THE PS3 if you want to play games this generation!! ITS THE BEST IT LOOKS AMAZING AND ITS JUST UGH! THE MOST POWERFUL CONSOLE AND ITS STARTING TO SLOWLY SHOW IT...

Just a few things wrong with this, I'll clear them up.
The 60 gig will eventually have it disbaled as well.Zitat:

60 gig has the PS2 hardware in it right now, 80 gig doesn't.Zitat:

TO Adiuvo
Yah thx man, but i did know the difference that the PS3 60GB has the PS2 hardware in it, what i was trying to say is that, I dont know the direct outcomes and range of difference between having the hardware and not having...
Also Heavenly Sword, and Killzone 2 havent been released yet so I didnt want to seem like a fanboy to say something like that, but i highly doubt thats the PS3's limit...for a console thats supposed to alst 10 years, I doubt it will showcase its true potential in the first year or 2..
And about the motorstorm comment I guess the full game is better, but its just the whole game genre itself im not finding to much interest in. I think I should have tried more of the online with teh full game to say....
LOL OK, u got me on the whole HD-DVD and blu-ray comment! I knew that but MEH....lol
Yes it is too early to tell, but there is no doubting the momentum blu-ray is having support from the movie industry..I just wish the gaming industry's developers would be more open and...well make a more overall better effort into producing more games that would further optimize the PS3 in that note.
Oh wait i forgot, the Wii is hogging all the developers because they see the profit rolling in from appleaing toward new non-gaming crowd, but Nintendo is abandoning the people that made them mostly, so its no wonder the 360 and PS3 are not progressing as fast as they could with the Wii in teh way.
Oh and im sorry on how ugly my long....post was, Dont know how to make it all creative and easy to read like you do in some of your comments or tutorials...
and thx for reading it btw, as you can tell I didnt even proof read..
EDIT: Where did you here the 60GB will have it disabled lol? The 60GB model as a whole has stoped production....once they're gone, they're gone...

^= It's a video mode... for the last time. ;) And like I said, please... pay attention to the "p"?
Linux is like Windows?
I admit it's just like Windows... as in... it's an operating system. But that's about it. It has some graphical interfaces that are like the one in Windows, but at the core, it's more like Unix... or DOS. ;)
Didn't want to be mean... but just to tell you how much you guys know about these technical terms... and their true meanings. I am not saying that I know a lot... but obviously, I know better than "assuming" things based on my experience with a PC running any version of Microsoft Windows. :p
Edit: To further clarify stuffs that Adiuvo stated:
- The current US/JP 60GB PS3 has the Emotion Engine and the Graphics Synthersizer of the PS2, therefore, they can achieve a higher level of compatibility with PS2 softwares (it's actually perfect, I think).
- In case you ask, I believe all 20GB versions of the PS3 also have the EE and GS.
- Any other versions of the PS3 has a different chipset used to emulate PS2 softwares. It's not that they don't have anything. They actually do.
- As you might have guessed... the substitute chipset doesn't do such a good job at handling PS2 softwares... at the moment... but seeing as to how Sony can improve compatibility with each firmware update, I am guessing that Sony can completely program that chipset to their liking.
- PS/PS2 softwares upscaling works best on US/JP 20/60GB PS3 consoles... go figured.
- Heavenly Sword and KillZone just shows us how much the PS3 can do at the moment. But judging from some developers' words, I think we can expect even more from the black box in the future...
At $500, with 5 Blu-Ray movies, I'd say it's worth it... Plus, there will be some good games out this year. Add in the fact that Sony will have a Rumble Sixaxis out, hell, anyday now, it seems like a pretty good time. Don't expect a great game library though (initially), just capitalize on the temporary price drop... Within a few months, it'll finally be worth it (gaming wise).
Sums it up to perfectly.Zitat:

P.S. I wouldn't recommend the Wii AT ALL... Even at $250. I can count the amount of times I've turned on my Wii on one hand (no pun intended). There's litterally four good games on the Wii, and three of them aren't even out yet.
Not a fan of sports, I guess? Or did you have the Wii elbow? :D But yeah... it's pretty hard to play the Wii for a very long time, that I agree with.Zitat:
Zitat von DFS
And by the way, like Sony said, they will continue to churn out those 60GB PS3 until Christmas... maybe you can pick one up then. There should be some good games then, too... plus... I think most stores are sold out of those PS3s at the moment...? Here's a very ironic reality: I came to GameStop just 4 hours ago... and... there were 7 Wiis on the shelf (behind the counter). I asked the Game Advisor guy right there and... there wasn't a single PS3 console in the store. All of them gone. (Except for the display console)
Actually, Wii Sports is one of the 4 games I was talking about... I'm actaully not a fan of Zelda.Zitat:
Zitat von RunawayPrisoner
In fact, I'm not even a fan of metroid, but I'm only giving it the benefit of the doubt, because it's probably gonna be the first FPS to work on the Wii.
Also, I don't have a problem playing the Wii for long periods of time... There' just nothing to play... And that's coming from a person, who gets 5 free rentals at blockbuster. I have access to every game, for free, and there's still nothing to play.
Woah.. I didn't expect that from you..Zitat:
Zitat von DFS
As for the Wii, it will be worth it once Mario Galaxy and Smash Bros is out. Smash Bros is the best fighting game out there, it's an automatic system seller. But I must admit, I wouldn't recommend the Wii right now either. For the most part, only 1st party games are worth the money.
That's exactly what I'm talking about. All of the good games are Nintendo first party games, and they all feature Mario in some way. It happened with the Gamecube and now it's happening with the Wii.
I don't think SSB is really a fighting game, I would classify it under brawler.
Is brawling, not fighting?Zitat:
Zitat von Adiuvo
What the hell is a brawler game?Zitat:
Zitat von Adiuvo
The Nintendo characters are fighting each other, therefore it's a fighting game, and a damn good one at that.
Nintendo is sucsessful, but its too bad they turned their backs on the people who got them where they are today.
Their loyalty toward the hard-core, or for that matter....GAMERS as a whole is totaly out the window.
They really get on my nerves, they capitalize on the more mainstream non gamers and casuals, and just dish out all these horrid minigame titles that quite frankly bore me after an hour. So I thought...hey let me wait for E3 and they will show us what really matters: GAMES! , but no again as i expected, they failed and just showcased some more annoying add-ons, saying we are fat and such. WiiFit just isnt something thats going to satisfy most gamers and I can basically speak for everyone in this matter. But hey dont worry i didnt forget the actual games. Sure we have mario Galaxy, and that game looks pretty good, but lets not forget, it doesnt look like something overly impressive, its still a platformer/action adventure game. Next we have Metriod Prime 3: Corruption, this game is something to look forward to, no complaints here, even though im not a fan, i can still aprriciate and see where Metriod is going on the Wii. Super Smash Bros. Brawl, this is I think the games to really push the system, but only under one condition, I WILL SAY THIS ONCE, if this game doesn not offer online capablities(and no i dont mean leader boards or that stuff) I mean like battling people online, then this game is no different then really the one for the GC, SSB: Melee. I mean honestly without online this game is really going to disappoint me, because this game can either have almsot no replay value, when your on your own, but with 3 other freinds, ill admit its one of the more fun things to play. AND THATS about it for the games for the Wii...not many others coming out that are noteworthy...
Now you might say: "why does it bother u, your just a hater because they are so sucsessful"
Well first of all as a gamer it does bother me that people are making an investment into something that wont give them too much bang for their buck.
Second they ruin the industry, and slow down the progress of developers becoming adapted and learning to optimize the 360 and PS3 on a faster pace. Because all the developers are spending time making these low quality Wii games, that are like previous gen. AND THAT IS WHAT BRINGS MY S*** TO A BOIL.
Im sorry but the Wii is just not for true gamers looking for an exceptional exprieince overall. And nintendo's press confrence, it was obvious what side they chose to go with, and that is to continue producing half baked games for the casual based users and just milk all the cash they can.
The is it worth it question really depends on what you want the console for. If you want it to play Blu Ray movies, and use it for media and stuff, then hell yea it's worth it. But just as a straight up games console, I'd say it's not at this point, especially when you can get a 360 for $100 less.
Yah but but...it looks good...and 360 might give him the three red lights, like mine did on me
At least there's a 3 year warranty now.
Thank freakin Lord for that...
I mean with a 33% failure rate, it was really the least they can do, and 3 years should be more than enough to finnally get the bad ones fixed and at the same time input the proper working models..
Warranty FTW. Besides, 65mn chips will be in systems soon.Zitat:

yah thats definatley good to hear. (and ill be hearing the console alot less)(well mybe not me hehe but those who have the 65nm ones)Zitat:

Though...I wonder how the PS3 will be with the new 65nm ones, since they are also working on such chips as well.
Possibly... you can hack into it during the night, take all of the data on it... and the sound detector that is put 1 inch away from it doesn't detect the slightest sound from the fan? lolZitat:

Lol you confused me there for a second.
But OK lets do it!, wanna help?!
The thing is not even out yet... or actually, it's not even announced yet. :p
I remmber reading back on GameSpot that it was announced that they were going to produce it...
they already have the chips in prototype and all.
it was here on QJ too.
Let me see if i can dig up any news
