Hey all. Something for you to use and have fun with on PS3s in the store that are up to firmware 1.6x (1.8x will not work like this)

In the XMB goto Security Settings. While highlighted. Press L1+R1+Select+Square

It will ask for a 4 digit.

Pre 1.50 ~No password
1.5x ~ 5202
1.6x ~ 7568
1.8x ~ 7712
1.93 ~ 2737
2.00 ~ 0219
2.10 ~ 2464
2.20 ~ 4801
2.30 ~ 6558
After thats done, you can now use the PS3 without it saying "Demo mode" so you can configure controllers, accessories, etc.

Just thought I would give you all something for a change. ;) Enjoy. Dont mess up Wal-Marts system more then it already is. =p

Guide/Info WiP:
You CAN use the web browser, play online games, update/patch PS3 games when unlocked. Also PS2 games will play online!
Memory card making for PS1/2 supported when in unlock mode.
Can registered new bluetooth devices.
Can use PSP Remote play in network and local mode.
You CANNOT use Playstation Store.

Its not like I cant get info or find things out. I just dont always mention them. Heh.

I also have a demo firmware system disc too. Not sure if that would help anything tho here tho. Since the firmware isnt the same as a retail version.

Demo firmware was just that, Lockable firmware, but you cant upgrade one with the other.

I have one... but rem you wont be able to upgrade to it... Im guessing you had to START with the demo firmware. OEM and Demo firmware dont cross mix.

Oh Btw, I should have the 1.8x codes soon. =D Reason is, Sony is about to go 1.90 on demos.. hehe...

They probably just have it turned off. Lots of the places I go, it's off as well, then it'll be on the next day. Unless you ask them if it's broken or not. Could be xbots who work there, Ive seen many exaplmes of employees draggin the PS3 through the dirt.

Anyways, I went to Wally World last night but forgot to write this down. Next time I go back, I'll givr a go because it was 1.60.

PS3 Retail Demo Unit Passcode

Goto System Settings, then Security and press:
L1+R1+Select+Square

Match the Passcode with the Demo Unit. It tells you what version in the lower right hand corner.

1.5x : 5202

1.6x: 7568

1.8x: 7712

return 0;

Yep, The new 1.8x is 7712 and will work till the 1.9x rolls out. Whats more interesting... is your allowed to format the hard drive of the demo units... wanna kill a system in a store? Delete their game demos ^^. Hehe..

I've takin about 4 different units off of demo mode. Installed the actual update on most of them. Left it on the browser so people can give it a whirl, some I've tried to install demos from the store on it but never could hang around to see if it finished.

Thanks Myst, and one question:

Do you think they'll ever replace the kiosk units with actual 60GB SKU? (with a larger HDD installed)
