1. If you're going to play games you 'ripped' off the hardrive, what's the point in extending the laser life?
2. It's called a job. By the time you have kids you should have one.
3. Why? 3D gaming is the only thing I can think of, and there aren't even that many good 3D games for Linux.

Mark my words, the PS3 can be hacked. Let me point out a quote mentioned by Dark Alex himself during an interview. The subject here is PSP firmware, but I believe it can be applied to the PS3, as well.
No matter what the console is, its software is just code. Code can be exploited and hacked. Period. Therefore, the PS3 is by no means "unhackable". Now, whether or not it will be hacked, I cannot say. We'll just have to wait and see if anyone's up to the challenge.Zitat:

Nah - For gaming side, I'd just stick with PS3 games. For running Linux, though -- How about Beryl? How about a nice 3D desktop that's unique? I'd like a little eye candy, that's all.Zitat:

You know, I was never sure exactly why PS2 emulation couldn't be done with software on the 40GB. I mean, I remember Sony removing the hardware chip from the 20/60GB models, and the 80GB model does software - What exactly is preventing the 40GB from doing the same? I assume it's probably something disabled in the firmware, right?Zitat:

Honestly, with only 512 megs of RAM, I don't think Beryl would be a viable option. It would make the whole desktop slow.Zitat:

There are two PS2 emulation chips, the Emotion Engine and Graphic Synthesizer. The 80 gig only had one of these removed, but the 40 has both. So, emulation of the PS2 is currently impossible for the 40.Zitat:

so what if an analog autocenters? do you really think an analog stick does'nt just send data tracking a cursor's position? sure, it may not be as simple as i'm implying, but it's definitely possible to make that happen...Zitat:

look at some of the games developed in the pc freeware dept. there are games that make the entire gaming community go wow every now and then. MANY of them develop and mature, sometimes turning into full-fledged commercial releases with a production value only a commercial budget can attain
while i don't know the EXACT details of how fl0w's devs got sony's contract, it's safe to say that a large number of games 'adopted' by the commercial games industry are merely fine-tuned for specific hardware to enhance the experience, and ofcourse, sold by a company to pay for the many people who worked on enhancing the title
slick graphics is good and all, but quality, innovative gameplay is the root of a great game. all the money in the world can't make that happen

if he/she appreciates it enough and wants more, does he/she buy the original? if not to reward the devs and hope for a sequel, then atleast to have an original just as a keepsake of the great experience delivered?
i think anyone with a clear head and a good idea of what the game gave them and what they wanted from it, would answer positively to the above in some way or another
most of my friends and relatives who play regularly try to buy as many originals as possible, regardless of availability

yes about the time that BT go out and replace EVERY phoneline in the UK... typical phonelines in the UK aren't capable of achieveing over 10Mb. I swear people have been spoilt by the PSP and expect that every console should now be like that. The PS3 and PSP are completely different.
This is very true about UK landlines. We are still on 1MB broadband because when we got upgraded to 2MB we had constant connection problems and in the end it was found to be that our line wouldn't handle 2MB. We got compensated with unlimited downloads tho :tup:Zitat:
