the nm rating of the cpu has absolutely no relation to the size of the machine, nor does the ps3 suffer from heat issues.

Well, as long as you take care of your PS3 and don't keep it on for a straight 12 hours every single day, then you should be fine.

IMO, this was just Sony being cautious that it might happen, but so far, only less careful people are getting overheating PS3s.

THeres no benefit really to the end-user of having 65nm. It just lowers production costs on Sony's side.

Temperatures also plummet on a die-shrink usually. Reduces the chances of hardware faults developing.

True. The PS3 will not overheat as long as it is in a properly ventilated area. I left mine folding @ home for about one month when I took a vacation and mine (60 gig) did not overheat and/or burn my house down.

On topic: Would the 65nm RSX make a noticeable difference in power consumption? That would be worth waiting for.

those are not needed and disrupt airflow, plus they void the warranty

What difference would that make if you're the one who left the damn thing running for a month while you weren't home?

Why must it be a damn thing? Have I offended you somehow? It makes no difference to me as I already have two PS3's and won't be getting another anytime soon. If the new RSX chip consumes less electricity then the O.P. and others may find that information useful as they plan towards purchasing a PS3 in the future, especially if they are concerned with their power usage/bill.
