Well, as long as you take care of your PS3 and don't keep it on for a straight 12 hours every single day, then you should be fine.
IMO, this was just Sony being cautious that it might happen, but so far, only less careful people are getting overheating PS3s. |

i have my ps3 on for days on end, ive left it on for 8 days while on vacation (folding at home) and ive never had a problem and doubt i will.

those are not needed and disrupt airflow, plus they void the warranty

Why must it be a damn thing? Have I offended you somehow? It makes no difference to me as I already have two PS3's and won't be getting another anytime soon. If the new RSX chip consumes less electricity then the O.P. and others may find that information useful as they plan towards purchasing a PS3 in the future, especially if they are concerned with their power usage/bill.
