why does PS3 need 7 controller ports?

I did not mention anything about a PSP being used as a controller, why can't you understand that the number of people playing a game DOES NOT HAVE TO BE EVEN.
Xbox and Gamecube consoles have 4 ports each, does that mean you can't play multiplayer with 3 people? OF COURSE NOT.

all im saying is that 7 is an odd number, and personally, i think ppl would much rather prefer 8 over 7 but since SONY decided to do it their way, then we only have 7 ports, and not 8, and that is what i am debating

Ohhhh but you forgot that the PS3 can output to two TV's !1?!!!1 and of course every game will support this as well as the 7 controllers, yup...standardized procedure to certify games....even 2 player fighters have to find a way to use the other 5 ports or else they can't release their game on PS3, it's true, google it

Man, do you not read other peoples comments?

- There are not 7 ports
- Sony did not choose 7 controllers. There are 7 controllers due to the way Bluetooth operates allowing 8 devices to connect => 7 controllers + 1 PS3 = 8 devices

Sony have given you the maximum possible controllers using Bluetooth and that is all there is to it.

all I know is that the ps3 is gonna be a really good console..playing SOCOM 4 online free will be great..and when the ps3 comes out on november hopefully just in time to cancel my xbox live account if they ask me why ill tell them why..not because I can't afford it just cause ps3 is free...anyways If it does support bluetooth maybe my bluetooth headset could go with it...

hehe, yeah someone mentioned that many moons ago.....I suppose they could put in another blue tooth controller...but seriously, why.....you'll have the 7 blue tooth devices and no doubt there will be wired controllers to hook into the usb slots....
