You could install Linux to use other applications on your PS3 unit. The PS3 supports homebrew in that form and seriously, that's way better than some "exploits" from the firmware as you have full access to the console that way (except for the flash memory, or so I've heard... but who needs the flash memory when you can access everything else?). By the way, did it not ask you to set things up when you run it for the first time? The first batch has 1.00 and yeah... my console had 1.00 when I got it two days ago. It hasn't shown any kind of error as of yet.
