'cept for the fact the PS3 can't view GIF's from the XMB.

Not really, they said if you could compile the samples you could get Hello World running. If the exploit is fake all along,you'd think they'd be bragging about Hello World anyways, so whether it's fake or real according to your logic, it's suspicious that they aren't.

No, game saves are encrypted...you would need an exploit for it to read an non-encrypted version.

Yeah. Companies tend to have those epic long terms and conditions. So that they can legally get rid of you if you do the slightest thing wrong.

Though, its a bit sad people have to go to those lengths, just to get a feature that Sony should have implemented some time ago.

Well any hardware would be better if they allowed homebrew to run, but thats unlikely to happen.

That's PRECISELY what it is.

The kid made a massive image... like, 16000x9000 pixels... in which the words "Hello World!" are displayed.

Then he loads it.

The PS3 sits there loading the image for a while... and displays it.

Team ICE... Want to convince us it's real? Make the text move.

Blatantly fake, once more. As expected from Team ICE and everything else posted on ps3hax.

Definitely an image. You can see the blackness turning a bit lighter when the image appears. Don't know if that's relevant or not, but I thought since PSP programs don't do that, why would the PS3's?

Yep, fake. And so is their "exploit TIFF." As I posted on ps3hax:
Quote:
Shame that this is a fake, too.

It's a real TIFF from a real exploit, sure, but the exploit was discovered in libTIFF in 2006 and FIXED in a LibTIFF 3.8.2 patch. Oh, and it was never capable of running code; only of crashing the client.

Code:
 >>> # LibTIFF 3.8.2 unpatched                      | >>> # LibTIFF 3.8.2 patched

 |if (off + sizeof (uint16) > tif->tif_size) {      | |if (off + sizeof (uint16) > tif->tif_size ||

Read about it here. The author of the original proof-of-concept is Tavis Ormandy. Here, read some more.

Notice the highlighted bit above, and the highlighted bit below:

Seriously, people, this took me less than a minute with Google and a hex editor to figure out.

Tip to fakers: Next time, at least be intelligent enough to null out the bytes containing the name of the author of the proof-of-concept.

Hex editing is such a basic thing to do. You'd think "hackers" would know how to do it.

It's not impossible but it's going to take a lot more than a very old, very well known TIFF exploit.

Especially one that Sony should've known about from the PSP.

I never thought that the TIFF exploit would just like that. I meant other exploits in general, and what would come from it?
