who says you have to buy a game a month? I have an after-school job and make $20 a week. But I only buy games every couple months. A nice effect of that though is that I now have about a thousand dollars in the bank which would go nicely to a future investment such as a car.Originally Posted by Vee

yes, i would admit that "backups" would be nice, i wouldnt take the time (to search then dl) nor money (for a burner) for them. i really have no other reason for the burner. i hacked a psp, and the only games i played, were umd games i bought or got from friends, official game demos, freehomebrew, and a gb emulator. and those actually were backups because i had a (most) of the games i played. so though i totally would hack my ps3 i wouldnt until something as fool proof as a pandora came out and quite a few homebrew applications were out. though there are already many for linux.
through extropolar physics and things beyond your comprehension, it might be possible for me to not unconfuse you by speaking above you, below you and using words that i made up completely off the top of my head.
its not really a real job, its just a small neighborhood job. But it fullfills my needs and honestly i haven't really spent much of it.Originally Posted by Greyone

oh i hope it isn't hacked. That would almost be as bad as McCain winning the presidential election *shudder*
dont worry. even if he does, he'll probably die within 2 months.Originally Posted by mohaas05

I hope its hacked soon, because I want to buy one and pirate all the games.
Why you ask?
Because they DONT SELL THE ****ING original games in India!!
My friend has been waiting months for Guitar Hero 3 to become available here and we hunted around for 4 hours today in a futile attempt to locate it. WTF its been out for half a friggin year. He ended up importing Burnout Paradise and had to wait forever to get COD4 over here.
What the **** is the point in selling the console and not the games! The only games they have here are such lame **** which no one wants.
I wanted to buy Chains of Olympus for the PSP as soon as it was available.
Its still not available here! WTF! Do they really think they can release such a high profile game and not release it everywhere within a reasonable timeframe?!
I ended up downloading an ISO of Chains Of Olympus, and now that I've played it through and through I'm not even gonna wanna buy it when they finally decide to release it here!
They talk about rampant piracy in 3rd world countries... Can you even call it pirating where there is NO ORIGINAL!
You go on and on about how you really don't want the ps3 to be hacked and how wrong it is that people download games.Originally Posted by mohaas05

And while I am for once am out of the shadows I might as well tell why I want the ps3 to be hacked, since everyone else keeps persisting to tell their reason.
It's the same reason I screw around with my car, the same reason I install linux and often find myself reinstalling everything after faults I made or sitting for hours configuring and messing around. Because it's fun. I like to modify everything that is mine and remove what I find useless and make whatever I like better... At least I try to, because I like it.
 omfg Torch your post made me lol so hard.
And I thought we got things late ...
Microsoft is actively pushing the 360 over here. They're even starting to put up billboards that hint at the XBox without actually mentioning the XBox anywhere on it.Originally Posted by eldiablov

But alas the 360 games have been pirated and no one buy's originals when you can get a pirated disc for around 30-60 Rupees ( 1$ =~ Rs.40) :O
Consoles are only sold premodified and in the grey market, because the retail price of the console in legit shops is almost 50% more.
Sony doesnt even bother selling the PS3 games here and hence its a complete failure over here. The PSP is becoming suprisingly popular over here solely due to pirated games. No one can afford to pay Rs.1500 for a UMD.
PC gaming companies on the other hand has done the right thing, considering the average Indian income. Almost every major company has teamed up with Milestone Interactive and are selling orignal games at less than 40-50% of the US price. EX: I bought Half-Life 2 Bronze for Rs.950 at launch, it was available here in a few days of release. The US price was like 79$ and it was close to Rs.50 to 1$ at the time. Which means something that costs Rs.3500 was sold at Rs.950.
Valve is selling these "game packs" here. You get almost every HL1 engine game for a Rs.400 pack.
If only console games would come to the same price point, people would consider even buying originals over here.
he beat you to it 15 days ago.
lol yea, why post in such an old thread?
I think they would make more money, hacking is why I bought the PSP
Its the only reason I've invested in ANY gaming platform.Originally Posted by ownall

I bought a PSP. I have a demo UMD.
Thats a lotta $$$ on hardware. And unlike the PS3 & 360, this hardware wasn't sold at a loss, so the companies still made a profit from my purchase.
erm... lets just take a tiny little reality check on how much money they make from hardware sales (a one off purchase) compared to the average person's purchase of software/accessories.Originally Posted by Torch
The idea behind the selling at a loss etc. at the start is (although Sony had other reasons - BluRay/HDDVD) that they get their product in the market so that they can make money on additional sales. This is where they make their millions!
I agree fully.Originally Posted by steve_acfc

If all this talk of "Ohhh piracy costs us billions" were true, then I should theoretically have a PS3 sitting under my TV.
$20 a week? O_o lol i make £60 a night being a waiter and i work fridays and saturdays... so thats about $240 everyweek... and i'm only 17 hahahahaOriginally Posted by mohaas05

Seriously though. I want a PS3. But, I'm torn between it and the 360. The only thing that the 360 has going for it, is the ability to pirate games. If the PS3 had that ability, I'd have one already. Let's go s!
BTW- Just to point out, piracy doesn't lose anybody any money. It just doesn't make them as much of it. Big difference.

Same. I'm tired of waiting for PS3 games to be pirated so I'm just getting a new PC next month when the GeForce GTX 280 comes out. Plus Burnout Paradise is coming to PC. The PS3 has ONLY THREE games which I feel are worth playing right now: Burnout, Tekken 6 and MGS4 when it comes out.Originally Posted by Judas

As for the PC the game developers receive **** all of the money you paid for that hardware.
If you're too cheap to buy the games then why bother buying the console in the first place? You're everything that's wrong with video game piracy. Most of us don't buy all of our games but we at least buy some of them.
I for one have sworn off video game piracy as I'd like to help ensure that the industry has a future outside of casual wii games bought by mindless parents for there bratty kids.

Small amounts of piracy doesn't lose enough money to make any difference but once it becomes the scale that PC piracy is it, it not only loses the publishers/developers money it also loses games for that platform.

Let me attempt to partially justify myself:Originally Posted by Phil
NES games were not sold here. There is NO WAY to buy an original cartridge. So buying a pirated cartridge is the only way. You don't even get an orignal NES here, there are only fakes. I got an original NES because my aunt bought me one from abroad.
PS1 and PS2 games were CRIMINALLY expensive over here. During the PS2's life cycle, original games were like Rs.3999 !!! A PS2 costs Rs.8000!!
Don't tell me you would REALLY buy games that cost half as much as the console. Now after the PS2 is dead, they reduce the prices of games to like Rs.1500, which is what they should have originally costed.
Very few PSP games are sold here. Seriously, the LATEST I've seen here is Killzone Liberation. No God Of War, no Crisis Core, nothing. They're just stocking the frigging launch titles. WTF.
PS3: Same as the PSP. Bloody games aren't sold here. But atleast they bring the games after 3-4 months instead of NEVER like the PSP.
And as for PC games, I've bought good games for which the dev's DESERVE cash. Not half assed crap.
I've bought Diablo, Diablo 2, COD4, Crysis, all the Battlefield series, the ENTIRE Command and Conquer series, almost ALL Valve's games on Steam, and more.

Its simply because of this stupid country. If incomes where equal for the same job in different countries it wouldn't be much of a problem.
Lets see, who would buy a pirated game, an engineer in India earning Rs.10000 a month, or one in America earning 10000$ a month. Original game costs 40$, pirated game costs Rs.40. Its justified as far as I'm concerned. People abroad should buy original games and not friggin complain about them being too expensive because the numerical value is the same percentage for their given job's salary.

Ok I'll give you NES, PS2 and PS1. But PSP and PS3 are region free, there's no excuse. You can import then for less than RRP in most cases.Originally Posted by Torch
I don't really do much PC gaming, the only game I play is WoW. But at least you are buying the games worth getting, which is what should be done on all consoles.
Sony forcing people to IMPORT games, not for the sake of getting them in a region before release date, but for the sake of getting an ORIGINAL disc is simply retarded.Originally Posted by Phil
It just means that they ALREADY have no plans of turning a profit from game sales. Which is why they sell the consoles at like twice the price. A 60GB PS3 costs Rs.34000 (Yes there are plenty of brand new PS3s with hardware PS2 emulation available here). That will cover for their hardware losses and give them a profit on the hardware sale as well.
They literally have no chance of selling any games when they cost more than what the average person earns in a month.
Just a note:Originally Posted by Phil
PSP games actually are not region free.
Although if you have M33 Custom Firmware, you can set a region free mode in Recovery menu ;)

if sony doesn't want them to pirate they should make the games available locallyOriginally Posted by Phil
