PS3 Not Appearing?
I moved my PS3 the day before yesterday to a friend's house for a party. Today, I set it up at my home. And to my ****ing shock, the PS3 could power on. But nothing showed up at the screen. I tried again. Just a flash when I turn it on, and then a horrible black screen that you would dread if you had a $599 PS3. Because my TV is old, I decided to go set it up on my other TV. It still didn't work. Please... what could be wrong? I have an SDTV, and my cable is white, red, and yellow composite.
Confirm the connections are seated well then try holding the power button as you turn it on. It will beep once and then when it beeps again you can remove your finger. This will reset the AV and boot options to default (wont affect any personal settings tho).

Thank you Dr.Phil! I can't believe I didn't remember that... when I installed Linux, it didn't work, and I learned that from last time. I didn't remember it! Wee! Thanks, Phil. Now I know why you're a mod. ;)
... *sigh*... Back to the n00b days, eh?
The problem is your PS3 was probably set in a higher resolution when you played at your friends house so it saved that resolution in the xmb. When you to try to connect it with cables that don't support the xmb's resolution you get a black screen . To fix this just hold the power button down for 5 seconds.
EDIT: Too late =/
Ah, damn. I suspected that (no, seriously...). It's true, my TV's 480i and my friend's is 1080p. So... yeah.....
