My PS3 Dies
This is such a piss off. I bought my ps3, in the summer of 2007. Now it died yesterday, which is such a piss of because it was so random. I was on PSHome and it just shut off, the ps3 was neither hot or on for a long time. The power is gone. No red light or green light. I've tried different power cables and different outlets. No difference.
So now I call sony, and they tell me it has to be sent to a service center to be repaired and it will cost me $190.97 which is just pure BS. This is a hardware malfunction, there was nothing wrong that I did with this PS3. I did all updates, was never left on for more then 2-3 hours at time, always kept at room temperature with great air circulation. This is exactly what I was trying to avoid when I decided not to get a 360 and its just unexpected. I was told that a PS3's life was supposed to be more then 4-5 years long. I've had my PS2 since launch and I have had no problems with it. $190 is almost half the price of a new PS3. I dunno whether its my fault whether I got a faulty machine, but running for over a year and a half I doubt it or I did something wrong with it. If anyone has any ideas what I could do. Now I just feel like an idiot for telling everyone to buy a ps3 because it has a better life expectancy then 360.
I am just wondering how 60 gigs are still alive from over a year and a half ago. Because I am not the only one that is having this problem and 90% of the people have 60gig ps3s too.
It decided to die because your warranty expired.
All expensive items commit suicide no more than six months after the warranty is gone. You're lucky it lasted as long as it did :)
maybe in real life calculations you left it on all day almost every time you play it... its just that when you are playing time slows down and stuff :D
jk... but if you clean it dust off the inside keep a good maintained then i don't know whats up you could buy a new ps3 or wait for a price cut if it would happen (which i doubt that for the most) then just take the repair and that price.....but if you don't do any of that stuff then there's your problem...
not all 60 gigs ps3 dies out within months.. i still have my 60 gig running about 5-8 hours since launch and still running good as new.
Nothing happening here, and I always give it an inside out dust clean up i clean wipe the ps3 i check the cables check the outlet on ps3 do some maintainace check up and so far nothing wrong has ever happened to mine...
This does not sound like the Sony I know. What the hell happened?!

I tried the argument thing, but they said that they are strong with this policy for ps3s. Looks like I gonna do this repair my self. My PS3 is actually very clean, no dust anywhere in the outside or near by. I think my ps3 is the only one that doesnt collect dust out of all the ppl that i know. this is the first time that a sony product died on me.
Probably the power suply.
Hunt down eBay.
if it can't power up then it will have to be the power supply got toasted. since that what happen on the pc if you power supply got fired. first time i heard about the power supply issue on ps3. most of them i time i only heard about ylod and dead blu-ray on the older ps3 model. I'm victim of ylod as well lucky i got 3yrs warranty but i got newer 80g model which missing several component from 60g ... -_-
I got it fixed from a local repair shop for about 80$, which is what it would have cost me if i got the part off of eBay and did it my self. Lets see how long this one lasts
did the repair shop tell you what exactly the problem?
I would had gone with Sony, you get a new PS3 clean and new(well refurbished like new), 190 is nothing compared to 450 dollars for a new PS3 which are garbage compared to the 60 gigs.
