I searched the forums for an answer, but was unable to find a definitive answer.
I installed YDL yesterday and it went smoothly. Default resolution is at 720p which has the black borders. My TV is capable of displaying 1080i, which is the resolution the PS3-OS uses. But when i try to use ps3videomode -v 4, the display is all screwed up. I get like 3 interlaced desktops at the the of my screen which are messed up. I cant do anything with that. Also i tried to use the 720p fullscreenmode, but then i get another weird thing. The display is shifted to the right somehow, where half of the screen is shifted to the right and beginning again from the left. That is also not usable. Am i the only one with these specific problems regarding videomode? Could it be that my TV needs some tweaking or something? I really would like to use the 1080i fullscreen mode obviously. Any help is really appreciated. Thanks |

I have had the same problem with YDL (and others).
First, you could try to add 128 to the desired video mode to have a screen without borders: i.e. instead of mode 3 for 720p you choose mode 131 (128+3). However, my screen was now a little too big, no borders but not everything got displayed. That was when I was using a component cable to connect the PS3 with the output device. I am now using hdcp/hcmi and everything is fine now. The backdraw is you are in need of a monitor/beamer that supports this mode. Hope that helps you. |

Hexonn is right, I assumed you would know where to change that value.
Anyhow, as far as I know the overscanning is due to not using hdcp/hcmi. I tried to describe that effect in other words in my first post ... What kind of video cable do you use? Besides - I would rather use a 720p resolution instead of 1080i since i means interlaced and p stands for progressive as you prolly know already. |

i use a hdmi cable (from Sony) to my Philips 32PF9641, which is HD-ready meaning a resolution of 13xx by 768 or whatever.
i agree with you that progressive is better so i would like to use 720p in fullscreen mode without part of my screen not viewable. in my case the picture displayed is bigger than my tv-screen, so i cant see the shelf of YDL completely. That is annoying. If you can help me fix that, i am satisfied completely ![]() Thanks. |

Strange thing that. I had the very same issues as long as I was using a component cable and it is perfect now with the hdmi cable.
I have no idea what you could change within your linux settings, however you should check whether your tv has set some kind of auto-zoom feature to on. A not so cool workaround would be to define workspace borders within the WM you are using (KDE, Enlightment17 etc., Xfce4) to have the WM avoid placing windows in the outbound area. |
