Default Gnome Start X Issue

I installed Gnome last night and it finished this morning. I ran through some other commands. And when I typed startx this is what I received. Please help.


localhost ~ # startx

Fatal server error:
Server is already active for display 0
If this server is no longer running, remove /tmp/.X0-lock
and start again.

Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: Invalid MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 key
giving up.
xinit: unable to connect to X server

Like it says, X is already running.

Just do:
/etc/init.d/xdm restart

That will restart the X server with whatever changes you've applied.

I did what you said and it has still not applied the changes. Is there something else I can try?

Did you edit the xsession variable in /etc/rc.conf?
