I have a tarball downloaded and on my PS3 HDD. I want to know how i can go about installing it. Please help!!

emerge -vg mozilla-firefox

No need to download anything, the emerge command will take care of everything.

I did that and it now says that I have to config files that need to be updated. How do I know which ones they are? How do I update them?

# emerge mozilla-firefox-bin

try using

etc-update
