Well, considering you can't really judge a word's pronunciation based on a completely unrelated word (lion or linux? the only similiarity is the "LI") it isn't relevant. Consider the words lye and lie. Both pronounced the same, but spelled differently.

What IS important, is where you put the dash when seperating out words. I disagreed with the poll completely. lee-nux sounds like Kleenex to me, and Ly-nux sounds like Lye. To me, I've always pronounced it Linn-ex, similiar to the glass cleaner Windex.
