Default Gentoo With Gnome- Using Flash Player on Firefox

I'm trying to install flash to use with Mozilla Firefox using this instructions Here ,but i keep receiving this error. Can someone help me with this.

Code:
localhost distfiles # emerge swfdec-mozilla
--- Invalid atom in /etc/portage/package.use: net-www/swfdec-mozilla-0.4.3
Calculating dependencies -
!!! All ebuilds that could satisfy ">=media-video/ffmpeg-0.4.9_p20070129" have been masked.
!!! One of the following masked packages is required to complete your request:
- media-video/ffmpeg-0.4.9_p20070325 (masked by: package.mask, ~ppc keyword)
# Luca Barbato <lu_zero@gentoo.org> (25 Mar 2007)
# snapshot not finalized

- media-video/ffmpeg-0.4.9_p20070129 (masked by: ~ppc keyword)
- media-video/ffmpeg-0.4.9_p20070330 (masked by: ~ppc keyword)

For more information, see MASKED PACKAGES section in the emerge man page or
refer to the Gentoo Handbook.
(dependency required by "media-libs/swfdec-0.4.3-r1" [ebuild])

Ok, Ill try that and report later. Does anyone know how can I change the ugly gray login screen where you type your username and password with something nice. I saw a thread a while ago ,but forgot where it was.

Yeah, install another desktop manager like gdm, then remove xdm from the default runlevel and add the new desktop manager:

emerge gdm
rc-update del xdm
rc-update add gdm default

These two steps worked fine:
emerge gdm
rc-update del xdm

,but I couldn't use the last one to set gdm as default. Can you give me any other command or another method to set gdm as default so it loads on startup.

Code:
localhost ~ # rc-update add gdm default
 * rc-update: '/etc/init.d/gdm' not found; aborting
Also, Cyanide could you give me an example as how to unmask the packages I need for the code in the first post.

echo "media-video/ffmpeg-0.4.9_p20070325 ~ppc" >> /etc/portage/package.keywords
echo "media-video/ffmpeg-0.4.9_p20070129 ~ppc" >> /etc/portage/package.keywords
echo "media-video/ffmpeg-0.4.9_p20070330 ~ppc" >> /etc/portage/package.keywords
Also, can you give me a directory listing of /etc/init.d/
Do it using this command:
ls /etc/init.d

Ah, my bad. Sorry.

Edit 2 files ( /etc/conf.d/xdm and /etc/rc.conf ), this is what the corresponding lines should look like.

For /etc/conf.d/xdm
Quote:
DISPLAYMANAGER="gdm"
For /etc/rc.conf
Quote:
XSESSION="gdm"
And add xdm to the default runlevel (since we removed it by mistake)
rc-update add xdm default

Finally, restarting xdm with the new changes:
/etc/init.d/xdm restart

Ok GDM is now setup and running correctly. However I couldn't get flash working with firefox even by unmasking the packages and following the wiki, too bad.

One more thing if you got some spare time i was trying to follow a thread about installing mame but the instructions were for yellow dog so i did my best at trying. I read all the posts and saw a user that had mame working on gentoo and he said that the only thing he did was to type this at the terminal:

Code:
emerge -v xmame gxmame
I downloaded the packages and compiled successfully but when I launch the program from the Applications > Games > GXMame it gives me this error:

Quote:
Failed to execute child process "gxmame" (no such file or directory)
Some more help would be greatly appreciated.
