Default Installing larger drive?

Has anyone installed a larger drive? 100 gig or so?

If so, are you still limited to the 10 gig split? or is it a percentage?

I'd like to have 50 gig for XMB and Linux, but I don't think that's in the cards is it?

--edit--

After looking around for awhile it seems that you still have to either leave 10 gig for Linux OR 10 gig for XMB...

I guess I could leave 10 gig for Linux and just use an external disk with ext3 partition on it.

Any issues with using 10 gig for FC5 or 6?

I dont own a ps3 but i know you cant be limited to 10 gigs if you change the size of the partition in linux.

I recall seeing an article in QJ's front page about a guy that put a 120 GB laptop hard drive in his PS3. You might want to look for the article and post back once you find it.

It's always divided as 10GB/XGB or XGB/10GB between the GameOS partition and Linux partition. It's just the way Sony did it, you can always use an external drive.

LOL! You just have to take some screws away, swap hard drives, put some screws on and you are done.

It'll still be 10G/XG or XG/10G. You'll have to connect the bigger drive externally using USB if you want to use all the space in Linux AND the XMB. Make sure to format it in FAT32 so both OSes can see it.

type
dmesg
at the console; it will display information on all your devices. check to see something like ( 1024 MB ) if your usb device is 1GB (1024MBs)

there should then be an area where it tells you it's ID, which should be something like: sdd1, sdf1, sdg1, sdh1

or just try any of those xD

then create a mount point directory where linux will acces your drive
mkdir /mnt/usb/

i'm going to call it usb, in this case

then mount
mount /dev/sd*1 /mnt/usb/

* = the letter that you should use like d or f or g, etc.

when you're done using it, use eject /dev/sd*1 or umount /dev/sd*1. don't just unplug :P

With the FAT32 32gig limit, I was thinking of formatting a big USB drive (like the old 60 gig out of the PS3) with EXT3 and using it for part of the actual file system.

My concern is the install. If I want to install FC6, how much space do I need? Will 10 gig be ok for the initial install? If I have the EXT3 USB drive plugged in during the install process, can I actuall put /VAR or something like that on the USB?

I guess I could always just TRY it...
