If you are thinking about installing linux in your PS3 you might want to try Gentoo HERE. It is very easy to use once you install it and adding software is as easy as typing:"emerge -vG (software name). Give it a try you wont regret it.

Yes, it works on PS3 - however, when used to use windows, ubuntu might be the right choice for you. Check out psubuntu.com and give the live-cd a try.
